I have a hard left and a hard right coming out of my car park at work. Aside from being stunned at how easily the big Audi can be coaxed around tight corners (it must have some caster angle!), I can confirm it does not seem to be bring a change to the fan system's behaviour...

Interesting point about the solar roof running in all weathers if sunny enough - with mine sitting here to retrofit I'm wondering if there's a relatively simple bit of kit that could prevent the fan running unless the interior temperature reaches a certain level?

In theory, some kind of internal temperature sensor/switch arrangement would do the job,

It’s surprising how little sun light is needed to fire up the fans mate, even with cloud cover the fan runs slowly. So with solar roof the fan has been working a lot.

Well, now I'm convinced it's not the motor. Pressing the 'windscreen demist' button brings the fans to life with a roar. Yes, they work alright, when you want them pointing at the windscreen! Interesting, and a weight off my mind as winter approaches.

As I started the car the other day after it had been standing for a few days (whilst I sold my Impreza, which is now gone ), the fuel gauge was going ****-a-hoop. It swung right up high and then back down again. The mpg from the trip computer was reading 143mpg! I wish...

It sorted itself out soon after though. I refilled it, and it has been reading right ever since. I also wondered why I couldn't change the time on the clock on the central display on the dash. Until I realised it was a timer that seems to record engine time...neat! Anyway, I've done plenty of miles in the A8 with the bliss of Radio 4 in the background. Finished work at 00:00 hrs tonight in the pouring rain. Jumped in the A8 and wafted home in absolutely harmony with the car. Heated seat set to '4', warmed me up even though I was wearing a Buffalo Shirt! Amazing.

Well it must be motors for the flaps that direct airflow. Time for a fault scan to see which one it is.

Reffro will remember the corner controlled aircon
I'm thinking this might be the case for me...

Not noticed anything when pulling out of the work car park, though I have been parking straight down the road from the exit gate as the car parks are too busy to fit the A8 in on late day shifts.

Driving home the past two nights it has been between 4.5-6'c. Enough to have the ice warning light on the dash display yesterday. Getting into the car, I've set the front window/rear window demist away. The fan wasn't working as I was driving home. The windows cleared quickly (well, the front one did anyway) because the wipers on the outside cleaned off the mist that was forming, and having the heater set to 22 was providing a nice warm breeze onto the inside of the windscreen. Not blown, I might add, but sufficient to clear the screen.

Each night as I have been driving home, I come to a tight left hand bend onto a roundabout, which sweeps off with a second tightening left hander onto the next dual carriageway. Driving across this I noticed the fans surge on and blow with considerable force. Recalling what Reffro had mentioned, I approached the final roundabout on my journey home from a wide angle, tightening a sharp attacking angle with over 1 whole turn of lock to the right. Again, the fans surge on and then off again.

So Reffro, what was the problem with yours, do you think I could be suffering the same? And how will I go about fixing it, or getting it fixed?

Also, regarding reading fault codes, does this require a laptop or can I purchase a suitable code reader?

It wasn't me that had the problem I'm afraid, that was Dezzy. I remember it from an afternoon spent barrelling around Warwickshire with him.

It was me the car is a 96 so fairly old with solar roof. We were throwing the car around a bit to be fair but not silly, i don't remember any tyre screech.

The fix was to ring A8 Parts for a replacement fan, not a hard job to swap over. I had a bit of trouble with a couple of screws that had been in there for 16 years and snapped the heads off. No fix for it as far as i could see as drilling them out would be a nightmare, the drill will want to wonder into the plastics. It has been fine tho so far.

Old thread I know but I was linked here today.

I have done this, quite simple to do, the circuit to break into easily is the EARTH lead from the sunroof down in the passenger footwell area.
I fitted a small rocker switch on the transmission tunnel side trim, only accessible with the glovebox open.
