I don't realty see the difference between that and Audis lane assist + adaptive cruise + traffic jam assist. The former two of which have been around for years ? Yes, its cool its an over the air update, but what else am I missing.....

I'm not an expert on the Audi driving aids (I have a D2, after all
) - will an Audi change lanes for you, without driver input to that manoeuvre? The Tesla will. It's also fair to say that this is a progressive release of the software, and the degree of the release of that software in market is partly dependent on national/regional regulatory approval. Tesla have had this (version 7.0) on limited beta testing release (i.e. employees + a few other selected owners/drivers) for a while now, and I've been told that was good enough to drive from London to Birmingham without needing to hold the wheel. What they did yesterday was to release v 7.0 to the wider owner community for use, and to now use this to build later development and release of further features. As ever, Tesla is doing things a bit differently, and - as all Tesla's are connected to their data network - this user data is core to developing this further: see this link for a bit more on this: http://mashable.com/2015/10/14/tesla...k#iksbdzXN7Sqw Oh, and it now also self-parks, but that's not unique.

I've gone round in circles on this....
I'm quite smitten on hybrid / electric technology. I find it very hard to believe my next car wont have some electric component. Audi, cannot deliver anything viable. VW, at a push has some options. Tesla at a stretch, has the tech, but costs mega Wonga. I'm still desperate to know what the exact 'must have' spec / options are that you chose for yours, and I guess, why.... ?

I'm off to test drive a hybrid on Thursday......... (not a Tesla obviously and not an S8 replacement).

2003 D2 FL S8. Irish Green Pearl/Beige. Solar sunroof, auto-dim mirrors, electric rear seat functions, ski hatch retrofit; extended leather. Aftermarket DVB-T, reversing camera and full XCarlink (Bluetooth etc.). 2016 Volvo V40 T5 Cross Country (4WD) with ALL the toys including adaptive cruise etc. etc. Osmium Grey with Blonde/Charcoal leather interior. Polestar performance "optimisation". (A much rarer model than a D2 S8 by the way!) Oh, and a brand new engine at just under 30,000 miles on the factory one!  Finally: gone, but not forgotten..... 1998 D2 PF S8. AgateGrey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors. e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon, Auto-dim mirror, Leather, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer. And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!
