My '06 EU4+DPF (which was removed) passed the last smoke test at the Audi dealer at 1/10th of the limit and what's more - they did it as a post 2008 car which is half the limit - so 1/20th of the limit!

I have never seen visible smoke in the mirror. Maybe its the later EU6 injectors I fitted when they packed up (as they were half the price)? They have 7 holes instead of 4. I do get a tiny bit of soot in the tailpipes though but clean it off. DPFs are 1/4 of the price they were now, so if push came to shove, would fit one and have to get ECU SW reverted.

It's likely the later injectors. I have an 06 EU4 Q7 3.0TDI and it's always had visible dark grety/black smoke on hard acceleration. Tailpipes are always quite sooty too.
Half a litre of Dipetane (Fuel Additive) added to a fairly full fuel tank will drastically reduce smoke for the test if it is an issue.
