At first I wanted to fit RNS-D, as the reason for changing the radio cassette unit is all about the looks and so I can play some CDs, but the I found out that the RNS-D navi plays only navigation CDs, not a music ones. But if it’s a real pain to fit a RNS-E then I’ll stick it RNS-D and a CD changer. Not really interested in using the TV and Navigation function on any of the RNS-E or RNS-D units, as I said it’s all about the look and the ability of playing music more easily…

Aside from the wiring, which will be non-trivial in a PF, the PF double-din facia is a different shape to both RNS-d and e units:

PF:

RNS-doorstop

Better off just fitting an aftermarket single-din media player tbh.

Maybe there's a different PF fascia then for the RNS?
My PF S8 definitely had a RNS-C and it's exactly the same size as an RNS-D.
The only way you can tell them apart from the front is that the RNS-C doesn't mention TV on the label on the bottom left button, you select it via a sub-menu if it's installed (as mine was).

Edit: I will correct myself. The RNS-C has the same size body but the fascia is rectangular, so you'd need to trim an RNS-D faceplate to fit a PF.
Attached photo demonstrates...…..

1998 D2 PF S8. AgateGrey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)
1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon, Auto-dim mirror, Leather, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer.
And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

I’m really for the oem look, and there is no drama with finding the facia panel for my PF model, alredy found it and I found the RNS-D navi + CD Changer for £50 in like new condition. Never looked for any of these aftermarked navi’s or CD player but I’m very sceptical about the look. There is one Blaupunkt SQR 46 Bremen, but it’s £400 which is way too much for this unit.

Ok, you have my attention...

If I'm reading your site correctly, you can make SDHC work on a 192 unit from a C5?

Yes, SDHC card support for 192 units and maps on SD card (either 192 or 193) with the feature pack.
You’ll need to wait for the upcoming beta for support for the D2 FIS display.

Ironically, I'm not bothered about the FIS display I am, however, interested in the RNSe as a media player with a video-in for an Android Auto device such as a Raspberry Pi (for some distant day in the future when you can buy them again) so it can be used with Google Maps. SDHC support makes that much more viable How it would work with the low-res mk1 unit I don't know, but its worth exploring.

You have my attention as well.
I vaguely thought about upgrading from RNS-D to RNS-E ages ago but it seemed somewhat pointless as the gains were offset by losses, but maybe no longer?
