Default New tyres time :-(

Now the sun is here it's time to take of the winter tyres Dunlop sp winter 3D fantastic and I recommend them. So I went down to a oldham part worn dealer and went through his stock with my mate a Ex ATS tyre fitter who looked after my tyres for over 20 years. but couldn't find even one I was happy with even though the vendor tried to convince me they where all good. Wrong speed rating W instead Y and he didn't even know what a y rating was? And they all had punctures when he said they haven't . Good tread and Bridgestone and continental though.
So I think I'll have to go for new I had Goodyear eagle F1s on my last car and they where brilliant in the wet or dry but didn't last and they don't make the same model anymore. Summer tyres last year where michelin pilot sport, grip wasn't brilliant and mileage wasn't amazing so I wouldn't want them again,
I was thinking about michelin pilot super sports after Amar's recommendation so got a price from ATS of £750 fitted all in and £50 fuel voucher back.
And £700 fitted all in from Profit tyres in Oldham.
Anyone else have better idea???
My tyres are 245/45/18 96y by the way
Also what is the top speed of a D2 40valve autocar road test 15 September 1999 says 159 mph suggesting there is no 155mph speed limiter. Do S8s have speed limiters has anyone tested the top speed on the autobahn?? Or GPS verified it?
Thanks Dave

Limited to 250kph (155mph) but limiters don't always work that well.
Unlimited should do well over 170mph, with the right rated tyres of course.

Out of interest, do you have a 2nd set of wheels for summer or are you swapping tyres?
I have 2 full sets (5 alloys each) for BOTH of my cars to cover summer and winter. The summer ones are "better" alloys so I don't worry about scuffing the winter ones.
(Though the S8 winter wheels are currently 5 bare alloys and 2 unfitted tyres, following my change from PF to FL earlier this year - work in progress!)

At the moment I just swap them until I can get some spare wheels at a realistic price, but to be honest the Dunlop winter tyres are that good you could use them all year round. But I want 2 save them for winter. Only one passenger has ever noticed slightly more noise but he's a racing driver and engine mapping specialist so has a good ear for any strange noises.
