Default Bought An A6

This is my new Toy.

Although the 8 is a big car it doesnt take much to fill the boot when taking the wife and kids on holiday.

Didnt want to miss any of the performance so Went for a 4.2 Quattro

Looking good buddy. The Avus wheels suit her perfectly. She's riding kinda high though - at first glance, I thought she was an Allroad, perhaps it's just the angle of the shot?

300 chp? How does she stack up against your old S8 with 340?

Was a shame to see you break your S8 though!

it is a little high at the moment.

The S6 with 18" Avus Wheels had a lower profile tyre than the 8 which doesnt help.

I am planning on lowering springs which will drop it 40mm and when the tyres need changing I'll put lower profile ones on.

There isn't a noticable power difference but for some reason the A6 has more of a V8 sound than the 8 did. I'm not sure whether this is because the 6 is a 40 valve and the 8 was a 32 or because the 8's exhaust drowned out the induction which can be heard more on the 6.

Don't forget that the A8 has the double glazing and better sound proofing too..

Even with windows open there's a difference.

We'll see what happens when I find an RS6 Exhaust for it.

You don't want an RS 6 exhaust (too quiet) you want an RS 6 Plus exhaust. It's a sports exhaust from factory and sounds much meatier and louder then a standard exhaust. Make me an offer.

Not strictly true. The RS6 is turbocharged, the S6 isn't. A turbocharger robs the exhaust gasses of a lot of energy, before they exit the wastegate/s. Turbochargers act as primary silencers, so the exhausts are tuned accordingly.

Fitting an RS6 exhaust to an S6 will be loud, bordering on unbearable. Ask the Audi A4 boys, who've fitted S4 / RS4 exhausts to their B5 Quattros, they'll tell you what it was like. It's a sort of loud resonance / booming, nothing like it sounds like on an S4 / RS4.

The RS6 exhaust on an S6 won't produce the sort of V8 burble it does on the car it was intended for. The same used to occur back in the '90's, with Escort RS Turbo exhausts fitted to Escort XR3i's. They were loud to the point of being seriously intrusive.

I know quite a few C5 S6 owners that upgrade to the RS 6 exhaust and are really happy with it. Have a look through the C5 S6 section at RS246, Grizz at Unit 20 has fitted a few to S6s and said they sound awesome too.
This guy reckons it was better then his old Milltek. I only want £250 for my cat back. Thats a fraction of the price of a Milltek, for a better sound, apparently.

Exhaust sound/ noise is a very subjective issue, I have a 'baseball cap' living nearby with a silly little Corsa (that burns more oil than petrol) with a straight through on it and a big bore back box on it, as has his mate with a Beemer

Sounds like a very loud fart in a dustbin, particularly annoying in the early hours chuffing away in the road.

Yeah, ok, I like the sound of a top fueller, or indeed my Harley on open pipes, but I have to confess to needing earplugs on a longer trip, when my spine allows it, but there's no need for conversation on the bike or in a dragster...

My P5B sounded amazing, although relatively quiet at the back end, the induction noise (& flex fan) was to die for...... very similar to the original batmobile sound....

Each to their own... that's my 2p's worth.

Is it standard suspension or sports you have. I have X reg 2.5 TDI Quattro with sports suspension and I find it too low. Fancy a swap on suspension if yours is standard? Max axle loads are 1200kg for rear axle on both cars and front is 1205 on mine and 1260 on yours not sure if that is not too much of a difference. Anyway that's just a thought as you are a bit far away and postage both ways would be a bit expensive.

If you change it for aftermarket coilovers I might be interested in your if they are standard and cheap enough.
