Ah, that's nothing... I was on my way back from deepest Somerset at the weekend and watched my DIS with incredulity when I saw the magical 745 mile range pop up on the display on a long flat bit. Suffice to say, the range went down by 50 miles instantly on going up a slight incline. Still, it's the furthest range I've seen on the A8L - most of my journey is at the legal 70 mph (Ok, indicated 74 on speedo) and the engine sits at just over 2,000 rpm.

dear sergey .
ouch !
I must admit I live in fear of a similar thing happening to me because I know what the insurance company is going to say

like you I like the gearing on my 3.7FL sport hence wouldn't consider a S8

by sheer coincide my daughter visited yesterday and asked if ~I would like to change to her A4 avant tdi as it has been maintained irrespective of cost and has spent it's life on the motorway , she commutes from the new forest to farnborough !

reading your comment about ,if need be , putting your car aside pro tem and reshelling it later ~I thought I would mention that I would probably be parting with mine in about a year ; it's a year 2000 ,silver, 115k , been in the family 15 years , maintained by an audi specialist

big pluses

never had a shunt [but bumpers need repaint , couple of trolley dings on boot lid]
factory fitted tow bar
replacement transmission fitted 95k [ from ZF via audi agent ...don't ask the price ]
no cam tensioner noise

so as you might imagine , am only thinking of changing for a car again in the family !

probably of no interest to you but just in case ....already had an unsolicited offer from somebody who MOT'd it but not currently available !

Hi Sergey, I've just seen this on my return from holiday - you must feel absolutely gutted, given the care and attention that you've put into your lovely car, and it would be so unfair for you to have to settle for an unrepresentative "market value" when you could probably get that much for your wheels alone, if you sold them separately

This might be a long shot (and not something I'd consider in normal circumstances) but would it be worth consulting with an accident management company? I'd normally steer well clear of guys like that, but it may be in these particular circumstances that they may be familiar with ways of recovering your costs of reinstatement from the other parties insurance, given that this is a pretty open and shut "no fault" claim.

I was thinking the same. Or maybe a specialist motor accident solicitor at least. I used a solicitor when I was involved in a similar no-fault accident. They take a cut of course, but they do all the work for you, and a good solicitor will probably get more out of the insurance company than you would on your own.

Nice find! Very low mileage and the best colour too

And zero previous owners apparently.

I have been following your thread Sergei but haven't yet offered my condolences on such a horrible event which, knowing the extraordinary care and attention you lavished on your car must have been heart rending. The Edinburgh 3.7 pointed out by RS6 seems to have passed under the radar up here.

That Edinburgh one does look nice, though wheels are not great (same as my Winter ones) and even with that low mileage it seems optimistically priced IMHO. There is also a red S8 about to pop up for sale on the A8/S8 Owners page. similar optimistic price and again the wrong wheels, though the red looks stunning. No further details on it available yet though....
