I was surprised by the number of positive reactions tbh lol

I have heard similar stories of horrific front tyre wear on urban-based examples navigating car parks on a frequent basis. May be worth a read up on forums to see if anyone can recommend less susceptible tyres from personal experience when you do need to change them. May just be worth going for a cheap option and accepting they won't last long.

It is after all a massive bit of kit running on car road tyres - we used to scrub tyres on our 3 axle trailers when getting in and out of tight spaces but they only require 1mm of tread to be legal and come with a stack load more tread than a car tyre in the 1st place lol

I can recall seeing a Porsche Cayenne in black with blacked out windows and added chrome around the windows - it really did look like a pimped out hearse!!

I'm contemplating the replacement for our A6 wagon and looking longingly at various things with horrific running costs I could replace it with - fortunately a lack of funds due to me not working mean it's an academic exercise for now! A suitably specced Cayenne or Toerag are on my infinite list of possibilities - as are a Passat R36, an A6 3.0 diesel........

The standard spec is 'ok' but its very much a pumped up A6, its not in the A8 class.

It shares many options with the C6 A6, twin pane, adaptive cruise, reversing camera, advanced key, xenons, Sat Nav, TV, heated seats, etc etc, so the base spec is ok, but not great - you need some of the options to make it a more useful car...

Since buying it, I've become aware of the front tyre wear problems, and some issues with the 3.0Tdi engine from time to time, but bottom line is the wife does barely 5000 miles a year, so I'm not overly concerned right now... It'll mainly be a weekend driver for the whole family...

It runs nice, is comfortable and vast. It makes the A8 feel small, and the S4 feel like a moped

Its not as quick as other Audis by any means, but once you're at cruising speed it sits there quite happily.

you dont have to look at it if youre driving it Richard
just look at all the nice Q7s whilst you drive around putting loads of extra miles on your XC90 tyres

Never really been a fan of any of this type of thing TBH, always seen them as an expensive fertility symbol, think I would have really struggled to find a vehicle I liked if we hadn’t stopped at two ankle biters. Mind you if the running costs being mentioned above are realistic, it could be cheaper to buy two 8s and employ someone to drive the second one for you if you need more than 4/5 seats.

However good luck with it Ian

Would be a funny old world if we all liked the same thing

I was doing my work experience at Oxford Audi when these came out, good car for the misuses. Now get yourself back in V344 ENF ASAP.

My mate works for Jaguar Land Rover hq, they give him a new Range Rover or Jaguar everyday and his job is to drive it as much as he can to see if there are any niggles or squeaks before they hand them to the press. My favourite so far were the XFR but the other day I drove this pre prototype Evoque. Totally loved it and want one, the quality was just as good as any new Audi, cameras everywhere and just a proper cool car. I took some photos.

It even had bucket seats!

Mate, there is seriously nothing close. Think Bentley 4x4; epitome of luxury that can climb a mountain.

I really miss my Supercharged Full Fat Range Rover

As nice as the S8 is, it doesn't quite hit the mark... Shame so many FF RRs have been "chavved up"

Great buy, IT. I've always loved the Q7, and looked at a 2006 Volkswagen Touareg 4,2 FSI V8, and a 2007 Audi Q8 with the same engine, before the S8 came along.

I'm still on the look out for one, and definitely a 4,2 FSI V8. I'm not a Range fan, so that's ruled out. Hopefully next year will see me in one.

I've just sold mine, going back into the Audi. I love the Range Rover. But the technology is old. I prefer the MMI systems.
