Yep I'll bet you could easily cut 3-400 off that price with a half hour googling part numbers and ordering them direct. Maybe an hour.

http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/showthread.php?t=9267&page=3 The total cost for my thermostat/pump/belt and all rollers/tensioners replacement was £983 inc £168 labour and £24 on sundries ((antifreeze etc). All parts were sourced thru TPS and were Audi OEM. As has been said earlier, INA supply Audi and you may get better prices thru other sources but this was the only way I could trust getting the right stuff with a guarantee. Also, TPS would normally give a credit/discount against return of an OEM water pump but, because the previous installer (A for Audi) had used a non-branded pump!! , i couldnt get the discounted price which cost me £45ish. If you want I'll breakdown the cost by part if it helps (aug 2015 prices).
