It was me that originally posted the part about the access panel in the wheel arch liner. Find that and you can't miss it.

I had a quick check using a mulitimeter , voltage was 13.95 on battery, leaving the + connected I moved the -ve to the engine hoping when i touched it to the block the voltage would drop, but nope 13.9..

and then it started to bucket down again..so still unable to check engine earth

anyone know an auto electrician ( reasonable prices) in Glasgow that has experience of these before I just pour a gallon of petrol over it and light it.

Recommendations from Dave McB:

Audi Technik in Bishopbriggs - 0141 772 7666 - (guys name is Willie) former Audi master tech and a decent guy

or

Deutschtek in Glasgow West End - 0141 332 1871 - (Colin) who specialise in high end cars

I spoke to a colleague in Paisley called Stevie McKinnon who gave me a number of 07836 738 8887 for a man named Billy who works out of Glasgow Commercials in Paisley (commercial garage but also do cars) and |Stevie said to mention his name, and that this guy was about the best he knew of.

My first suggestion would be to phone Willie at Audi Technik and mention my name (just call me David at Dingbro) and go from there
