Default Aircon no longer cold

I have noticed over the last week that the air-con has stopped being cold , I ran vagcom over it and the control unit is not throwing any errors up, I had a look at the air-con rad just in case something had made its way in ,but this also looks ok.
what I am unsure of is the magnetic clutch supposed to click when the the econ button is turned on then off again ,and is there supposed to be a click from any relays inside the passenger foot-well box ,as I am unable to hear anything when I press, I didn't even hear any clicks when I tried the diagnostic option from vagcom.

Any help would be great ,you think it might be anything as simple as a fuse for the clutch relay ? ( that's if it has such a beast )

The last regas was at the A8Parts meet.

I have also noticed my AC is not too good at the moment, but have noticed if I press the "econ" botton, it does blow cold. I havent bothered to vag-com it, I am thinking of changing my car soon. try play with the buttons, or maybe it needs re-gas

Regas fixes many A/C problems

The R134a refrigerant molecules are much smaller than the older R12 ones, and do leak out of perfectly working systems over time, which is why an A/C service is now fairly essential every 3 years or so.

A proper regas will suck out the gas from the system, and refill, adding lubricant too.

A report is usually produced showing what came out, and what went in. The different is quite amazing. Running really low on gas gives no cooling, running quite low gives poor cooling, and running a bit low will cool ok, but take more energy and fuel.

If you're local, a8parts do offer a regas service at competitive rates

Had mine re gassed yesterday at ATS, £45. And you're correct Ian. I got a print out of everything that was removed and then replenished, there was a big diference.

My cars interior is now even cooler

I thought that pressing the econ button turns the aircon pump off, so supprised that it's cooler with that pressed than it is with out.

Maybe where you had it done didn't do it properly? Or the system has a leak.

I've never had the 8 done and it's probably due time wise but she still blows cold. I have however had the Leon done and the place i use are a refrigeration specialist http://www.keepitcoolsouthwest.co.uk/ they pressurised the system and checked for leaks before re-gassing / lubing the system and then testing it. I know it’s a long way for most people to travel but it might be worth finding a specialist rather than a back street garage, I have friends that have used these and the gas has just leak out after a couple of weeks and then back to square one, sent them to keep it cool and they have fixed it properly ok it cost a touch more but not as much as re-gassing every month.

The 'top of the range' single units are the best to look out for - They do all in one, and it will extract the gas and then run a vacuum test.

It does this to remove moisture initially, but then holds the vacuum to test for leaks for around 10 minutes.

It should then (by law) only be refilled if no leaks are detected.

Some of the cheaper kit uses one device to extract, one to vacuum, one to fill, and these wont run a comprehensive leak test.....

The only time you need a more comprehensive A/C servicing outlet is if there is a leak, or a component is suspected as faulty - Then you're better off speaking to the pros.

As A8parts have a good machine and it was only done a few months ago that is why I was focusing on other possible problems ,I will look n the fuse box first to see if anything is wrong there.

It could be the dryer that's gone.. they do have a finite life, especially if it's ever been exposed to the air. Or given the age of the car, could be the compressor has decided it's had enough.

VCDS would allow you to scan it. If you don't have a copy, happy to plug mine in for you at some point.
