Nice motor.
I'd probably consider giving up my S8 for one of those. It's a good/clever ad, but it tells you sod all about the car. I find ads like that annoying to be honest ... They should give us the specs, tell us what makes it special and, more importantly, show us how it drives and sounds! It must be frustrating for the vehicle development engineers too, to see the cars they've helped develop advertised in that way. Imagine spending months/years developing and perfecting a vehicle's technology and mechanical systems, only to see adverts like this, essentially stating "buy it because it looks good". |

I see that you nothing about marketing then!!
They will researched the market "segments" and seen what keywords spark people off - "safety", "economy", "protects your children", "creates world peace". On the other hand, you, who wants to know the power, torque, engine size, and technical detail so you can make an appraisal yourself, are not on their list as you are dangerous in that you might see through their lies and deceipt. They are selling concepts and lifestyles and it doesnt matter to them whether its a car or a kitchen. see this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gDW_Hj2K0wo Rant over.

Have you missed some medication, David? You've had a bit of a rant on a couple of posts already this afternoon!
But what does make a marketing person (like me) smile, is a rant like this one....but I'll give the lecture on what marketing people really do to create an ad like this (which is brilliant IMHO) a miss.

Surely all that advert shows is that you cant park it close to things without knocking them over ?
And when you do knock it over its best to run away. |

I hate car adverts, there is almost not a shread of information in them, and I find that so annoying. What are the dimensions of the car? What's the HP, torque, acceleration, breaking? Top speed, max rpm? And then all the other more geeky stuff like gear ratios, cam chain or cam belt, type of fuel injection, etc, I have to spend ages digging around on the internet to find this information. Very often its not even on the manufacturer's own site! I find that ridiculous, they want to sell a very technically complicated product purely based on style. So frustrating. |

The thing is, most people really don't care about any of those details.
I've lost count of the number of times I've heard (an unspecified demographic ) say the primary factor was the colour. And, if you're old enough, think back to when the ONLY (and I really mean ONLY) factor was the badge on the back of your company car - L, GL, whatever. Status (as perceived by the buyer) I suspect is still the biggest factor.

Aftermarket DVB-T, reversing camera and full XCarlink (Bluetooth etc.). 2016 Volvo V40 T5 Cross Country (4WD) with ALL the toys including adaptive cruise etc. etc. Osmium Grey with Blonde/Charcoal leather interior. Polestar performance "optimisation". (A much rarer model than a D2 S8 by the way!) Oh, and a brand new engine at just under 30,000 miles on the factory one! Finally: gone, but not forgotten..... 1998 D2 PF S8. AgateGrey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors. e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later) 1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon, Auto-dim mirror, Leather, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer. And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850! |

Badge, Look/Size and the possibly Economy for majority of buyers or Power instead of Economy for some A lot is about the Status, but a lot is about monthly repayment and how well they are brainwashed with the brand/model

…and that's why I don't like this ad…it plays on this, and not much else really (unless I've missed something, of course ). Like an old BMW advert really...
