Hi Singh,

Sorry what are you trying to do here. Enable the sports mode in your 02 S8 or enable the individual gear numbers on the DIS?

Sorry confused.com here....

J.

Jon,

He's trying to change his gearbox to the PRNDS rather than PRDN432 which needs a different ECU and surround.

PRNDS32 i think....As the limiting to low gears is useful for steep hills and caravans, though you could always manual it !

I'd be interested too with an ECU / ECU flash. Don't care about the surround !

Interesting I see now.

If the ECU's are essentially the same nothing stopping you desoldering the 27C1024 chip (Which I 'think' is in these ones), and backing it up, then reading from a good ECU and writing it in.

If someone has an 'old' ECU and 'new' ECU I will happily open them up and see if we can update an ECU via. a software flash only?

Old style = PRND432

New 2002 style = PRNDS

There is nothing inbetween, but there is nothing to stop you using tiptronic to hold gears, which was standard on all UK models and works better than that 432 stuff anyway....

An interesting side-benefit of the newer TCU is that you can us tiptronic without having to move the shifter to the right first, so if you have steering wheel controls you can hit down whilst in Drive and it will jump into tiptronic mode - I find this more useful than the squirt stuff itself....

Ooooooh....The tiptronic buttons are perminantly live....Like the sound of that. Far too often i feel going round a roundabout i wanna drop a gear and kick out....also i guess it'll auto change back up after a while !

The 432 part does limit the maximum gear rather than selecting that gear though...so is kinda useful on hills as it can still drop, but then i guess the auto box would do that anyway !

@doc you think it would mean desolidering the chip to flash it....Thats a bit more work than inserting a chip into a socket or even better flashing via the port. Still i guess someone could do a nice line in sending flashed ecus for swap over on deposit basis ???

Just rang up Audi as was curious to what price it could be. They want £706! If only A8 Doc could get what he needs from it then we could return it

Pic 1 of standard older S8 TCU courtesy of A8 Parts:

Pic 2 of the newer TCU courtesy of Paul W:

They look identical in fitting way and reading up is the same pinout.

If we can get an older one and a picture inside I can examine it from there?

If it's a go-er I can tweak the software inside of the standard one and enhance it properly from there.

Very simular to the RS6 TCU as well....
