Hi Doc,

Iam was thinking it was a 4D0 927 156 EC, thats an EH - Any idea on diferences ???

Not entirely sure on that one, it is off a 2002 S8 UK model AFAIK. The EH is possibly the US one.

Yeah, EH is the US ones. Correction the price isn't £706, its actually £795!! US ones are much easier to source. Would they work though?

In my experience, if the part numbers are different, there is a good reason for that.

I tried a 2002 Squirt mode TCU in an early facelift car and it wouldnt even move forward .... very weird....

Put the old TCU back in and happy as larry.

I suspect there are two factors in the ECU coding that matter:

1) The gear ratios of the 6 gears. The TCU will expect to see distinct and accurate ratios between the input and output shaft. If these differ, it should report an error and more than likely go into limp as it will assume its not in the gear it asked for

2) It will expect to talk to the Engine ECU regarding the amount of power that the engine is allowed to deliver in realtime (eg backoff during changes etc) - If the engine ECU and Gearbox ECU were never designed to work with each other, then you'll be scuppered potentially. Bear in mind the yanks have some real funny emmisions things going on over there, so they probably run different engine ECU's too.

You will need to check whether your particualr engine, and gearbox code were available with that particular TCU - If so, then it should be plug and play.

If anyone fancies posting me their 2002 S8 TCU I'll happily test it out

This would be key, ensuring that it works.

My only other thoughts are getting hold of a used TCU from a non-squirt car and analyzing the gearbox code on the chip. From here we might be able to alter the shift points etc. as well as the other key features people want?

Chances are it is in the coding, just not enabled. And if it isn't possibly write it in?

Anyone have a spare used TCU kicking around?

Any UK spec TCU's support squirt? I assume 2002-2003 D2 S8 ones do?

If I bung mine into squirt it detects when its heading down a hill with you having lifted off the gas, assumes you want to slow down and down changes an its own.
I didn't realise that everyone could'nt just hit the tip to go into manual mode. It's very handy and after a spell of not using, the tip will switch its self back into auto.
I need my control unit (to drive and all that) but am happy to travel within reason if anyone wants to copy the data
