Default Are Teslas any good?

I bet that got a reaction from those who've driven them!

But look at this: http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articl...=BBD082615_BIZ

Its interesting that it was marked down for the "quality of internal materials". I raised this with their rep at the annual meet and in a subsequent email pointing out that they were competing against top end cars at that price and it was just not as good in that area.

The other disappointment is that it did not achieve the factory 0-60 time.

http://www.autoblog.com/2015/08/20/t...e-as-promised/

Reading a bit more about this, it appears that is because Tesla used 1-foot rollout for published figures for P85D, but used true 0-60 for their other models.
Its a real shame they were not clear about this, which also calls into question their claim about beating the McLaren F1 time which is without rollout.

With the new Ludicrous update P85D will probably match the McLaren, but they should have waited and not gone to press with false figures.

Still wouldn't stop me from buying one, just that I didn't expect such underhand tactics from this company.

I have just been across to Belgium (Driving through the Netherlands) on holiday in the 8 and saw 2 Grey model S Teslas

One was doing a steady 120kph in the middle lane as I wafted by - twas the door handles that alerted me to its presence.

The other was doing a steady 90 on the back of a recovery vehicle

Eight years on, maybe Jim's question is the wrong one now? This is worth a (15 minute) watch for those who are interested :https://youtu.be/VKvLM6MS6WI?si=RLZYOm3Fjc1TjnF9

Interesting article on CNN: https://edition.cnn.com/2024/01/18/b...las/index.html
One quote is "Controlling speed is especially critical in low-speed environments, like parking garages, with other cars and concrete posts all around. With gas cars, starting off from a stop requires the engine to rev up a bit before the car can start moving. Not so with EVs, which respond differently to pedal pressure."

Now I've never driven an EV in such an environment, though "out and about" on test drives they seemed natural enough. What I am used to is carefully using the clutch or on an automatic creeping against the brake. Is there anything similar on any EV?

Incidentally I also find the "start-stop" functionality of modern petrol cars can be a nightmare when parking, so I invariably turn it off (fortunately I can easily) on my Volvo.

2016 Volvo V40 T5 Cross Country (4WD) with ALL the toys including adaptive cruise etc. etc. Osmium Grey with Blonde/Charcoal leather interior. Polestar performance "optimisation". (A much rarer model than a D2 S8 by the way!) Oh, and a brand new engine at just under 30,000 miles on the factory one!
Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. AgateGrey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)
1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon, Auto-dim mirror, Leather, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer.
And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

Our (recently purchased) Mercedes EQC400 (BEV) has 'creep'. So manoeuvring is exactly the same as in an automatic ICE vehicle.

Interesting what you say, Andrew, about start-stop being problematical while manoeuvring. We had start-stop in the VW Touareg, and I have it in the Audi S8, and I have not noticed an issue. I'm guessing that VAG cars must have a way of identifying such situations and automatically disabling it.
