Im still trying to understand what is so special about these parts for the D2 bar the fact they fall off easily and are therefor rare. The same part for all other models are coming in betweem £10-40 yet they are £105 for the D2.

I thought it was a random selling them at that price but its A8parts, i thought they were supposed to be doing us D2 owners a service?? That is a rip off and a bloody cheek if you ask me!

Who is the A8Parts ebay page owner?

They are over £100 new from Audi, since the part is discontinued. its why they are missing from my old D2 and why I had my last remaining one stolen from the car in London. The D3 ones are cheaper because they are readily available. Getting new parts for a car that went out of production more than 10 years ago is getting difficult. Supply and demand dictate price sadly.

But both the D2 PF & D3 are very cheap compared to the D2 FL. I heard (although i havnt checked myself) you can get them for £60-80 new from Audi so pricing them at £105 on ebay seems daft & down right greedy

I think when buying anything from a scrap yard you have to do your homework. It has been noted before in a post that a part in question was cheaper from the main dealer however they don't advertise that the parts are cheaper than main dealer (or i've not seen it if they have) the majority of parts are considerably cheaper that dealer, in stock and the right colour, with a 24 hour dispatch.

I like a bargain and i've boaught from them but like i said you have to shop with your head.

They are from Yorkshire

Someone with a 3D printer might be able to turn a small profit.....

Consumer level 3D printers will be to rough texture, and you need to get it in CAD design first. Once you get design you could order 3D prints online on professional 3D laser printers, not sure about costs.

To make 1000 pieces by injection molding you are looking at £20k for design and mold and about £5k for production of 1000 units, which would work out £25 a piece. If you order 10,000 it would work out only £7 piece

I could model one in CAD but it would be a whole load easier to use a grill to make the negitive mould.

For the price of them i'd be tempted to use an old pair of tights streached accross some stainless wire or something

There was a guy on USA ebay a while back who'd made a few - might be worth a look further afield

Ah, classy as ever Dezzy! When mine was missing and I was waiting for one to become available from A8 Parts I tried manufacturing one out of stainless grill material. The problem is the the fact that that aren't lugs or a ledge on which to seat any frame (such as your stainless wire with some pants on it) and, consequently, the frame just pushes right through. It needs some work to provide some kind of seat first. As a grill became available I gave up on it.
