Default Running issues again

Last night driving back from work and engine missing started again, instantly thinking fuel pump as the exact same issues as before. Obviously laptop was flat so dumped the car at work. Just plugged it in and i have a few faults.

16684 multi cyl missfire, 89 cyl 5 miss, 90 cly 6 miss & 91 cyl 7 miss

I realise that these cyl's are all on the left hand bank

17913

Can anyone help?

I'm showing 1/2 tank of juice but i'm going to put a couple of jerry cans in at lunch and see if it makes any difference as i have had similar before at just below 1/4 tank causing the same problems. However i get issues with engine start block by immo and i never changed the wire just put up with it, i get over it by just turning the ignition on and off and back on untill the immo light goes out, lastnight i took a long time (worst it's been for a long time) and took about 5 mins to get it to go out. I noticed that when it did fire up my fuel had dropped from 1/2 to half way between 1/4 and 1/2 and then when running all be it really lumpy it started to rise again, i now have 1/2 a tank.

Man that sucks.

Sounds like a fault common to the running of that bank, so I would get the lappy on it and see what the short term trim is like, if it's maxed out rich then I would suspect an air leak somewhere.

The electrical gremlins are a worry though.

Hope it's an easy fix for you.

Thanks mate, i can put the cable to it but how would i go about checking the short term trim? I need my hand holding all the way as i know nothing. Also can i check these type of things with it not running?

You will need the engine running at normal temp to read the values.

Have a read through this to understand a bit more.

this is a good idea on how to logg data from various elements of your engine.

For vacuum leaks they will be most prominent at idle where the vacuum is strongest due to the throttle plate being closed.

If your results do point towards a leak they can sometimes be found by sparying carb cleaner around the hoses and intake.

OK thanks, however she'll not start now, it almost catches and then just turning over without firing. No faults found. I'm stumpped

When doing an output test on the engine should i be able to hear ticks or click when cycling through the injectors? As i don't hear anything. Fuel pump deffo hums when the ignition is first switched on, but can't tell if there is fuel getting up to the rail or at what pressure it's at.
Does smell a bit like unburnt fuel from the exhaust so i'm thinking there is petrol getting there it's just not firing.

Ignition amps were common failings on the ABZ's.

There are 2 of them, 4 cylinders each.

Drivers side of the engine bay under some plastic trim just past the bulkhead iirc.

Swap them over, see if the fault moves (if it'll crank at all)

You should hear clicks from the injectors, but its a very quiet click, and generally they dont fail, or at least not enough at once to stop it firing....

Thaks Ian, i have swapped the amps over to try and move the missing to the other bank, but i can not get her to fire up. So VagCom has no faults to show.

Sounding like a very, very long AA relay home

Whats the 17913?

I googled it and its a code related to closed throttle postion switch not closing,

was that a fault listed in your vagcom results the first time round?

Yes it was, i cleared all faults and nothing has come back. I looked for it in the vagcom wiki but nothing found. I'm going to google now as i don't even know what or where it is.

Its the sensor on the throttle body, other stuff I have read about it say the throttle body just needs a clean but I think that would not be the case with your problem.
