A worthwhile petrol promotion?

The latest from Tesco:

different from the previous ones, 'cos it accumulates over the month of spend, which gives:

- 8p off per litre if you spend £200/month,
- 12p off per litre if you spend £320/month,
- 20p off per litre if you spend £500/month

assuming you fill up with the maximum 100 litres.

Done via Tesco's club card scheme though, not by voucher, so Brian may not be wholly chuffed

…and how many people spend more than £500/month in Tesco, for that matter? But it's an interesting twist on the normal 5p/litre or 10p/litre offers. I think this will work for some who:

a) don't do that many miles every month in their A/S8's and
b) spend a fair bit where "every little helps"

D4 has 90 ltrs, Put 70 in yesterday. I'm not sure its worth the hassle. Also how much more will you spend at Tesco to get the discount on the petrol?

So realistically most people might put in a maximum of 50ltrs at 20p a litre = £10 vs. £500 of shopping. That's a lot of BOGOF.

I use this and as I normally shop there anyway I see it as a nice bonus

Just need to get to 20p liter to fill the Rs up

So you need to spend £500 in store and then over a £100 on petrol to get £20 off. £20 discount from £600+ we are talking 3%, hardly worth mentioning.

Hmm..interesting maths calculation, calculating the % saving against the total spend, including the food spend….

I'm with Amanda, it's a bonus if you already shop at Tesco (or are considering it…), and is probably better than the old 5p per litre offer, if you handle it right/spend at the right level.

Sainsbury's 10p per litre was the best supermarket discount promo until this, but I rarely shopped there, and their fuel was c**p anyway.

If you spend £500 a month on groceries and buy petrol at Tescos anyway then it's different case.

But they did not make the offer to give money away, they did it to attract new customers to tempt them over from other supermarkets.

I only spend maybe £50-60 a month at Tesco sometimes popping in on my way home from work as I am passing Tesco anyway and it's open at 6am. I am more of a Lidl/Aldi person. Even if I did switch 100% to Tesco it would only be around £200 a month.

The way I shop now I could save £2 a month if I bought petrol from Tesco - £50 groceries +£130 petrol or 1.1 % of total shopping.

If I switch all my grocery shopping to Tesco £200 +£130 for petrol I would save £8 a month or 2.4%

Thanks but I think I'll stay with Aldi/Lidl and Shell.
