I was going to suggest HJS cats, with the euro being down they are very reasonable at just under £300 a piece. And I bet they are better made than the stock ones. Plus they are ECE approved.
They will pass the MOT no problem, but they will cause you annoyance by occasionally setting off a post-cat lambda error and sometimes CEL.
There is a easy fix, just some spark plug anti foulers fitted between the post lambda and the exhaust pipe to lift the sensor out of the pipe, but its a bit ghetto and non-stock if you care about that sort of thing.

I think these are the ones I bought.

Yes, that's not really my style, though I'm not quite as obsessive about being OEM as the likes of IT.

Thanks for the info Adrian.
New nearside cat fitted today; the rear lambda sensor also needed replacing as it wouldn't come out. They did extract it eventually on the bench but the threads were damaged and it wasn't reuseable.

The old cat is rather a "hollow shell" with a lump of something rattling around inside. It has to go back to the supplier as part of the exchange process but my garage reckon there's not a lot inside it of any value!

Drives quietly and smoothly but I did get one "hint" of the sluggish throttle issue at a sharp right turn at a downhill junction, so only time will tell there....
