Remote control batteries
Hi Guys & Girls,
Could someone please confirm how many batteries are in the D2 remote key fob. I have just changed my Central locking pump, which now only works on the key in the lock, but not the remote. Thought I would change the batteries. On investigation one set of keys has two batteries, the 2nd set only had one battery in it. Would you also know what battery type/number I should replace with. Is there a set process to go through to get the key remote to work again. Thanks David

You need at least 2 keys:
1.Switch ignition on and leave the key in ignition 2.Lock vehicle from outside with the key to be adapted by way of the driver's lock door. 3.Within 5 seconds press "unlock" key of remote key until next memory position is reached (so it will be once for 1st key, twice for second key etc). Each time the button is pressed the hazard lights will flash to confirm. 4.Wait 5 seconds. 5.Now press the "unlock" key again to confirm the matching process. This vehicle key is now saved and the central locking must unlock. You can then proceed to next key and save it in another memory position.

OK, So I met up with Barzya8 yesterday and we tried to sort out his keys. We tried Ainarssems method, a similar method found on-line and then using VCDS went into the central locking to try the process in the VCDS Wiki here.
Unfortunately there was no reading in any Group. There should be! Anyone any ideas? CtL

Hi Conan,
Just to let you know I have managed to code both sets of keys using the following procedure. Both remotes now work fine except there in no horn toot when locking. Something I can live without. AUDI A8/S8 (1997-1999) Procedure AUDI A8/S8: Programming the Key Fob Remote Control Programming (1997 ON) Procedure 1. Switch Ignition ON and leave the key in the ignition. 2. Mechanically lock the vehicle using the Drivers door using a second key. 3. Using the remote control press the Unlock button once, and the horn will sound once. 4. Wait 6 seconds and press the unlock button once to activate the coding procedure. The remote control will now be programmed. NOTE : When performing programming on additional remotes the procedure is the same, except you press the unlock button 2, 3 or 4 times for the different remote. For example : If programming 2 remotes press the unlock button twice with a 1 second interval between each press, repeat for 3 and 4 remotes. 5. Switch Ignition OFF. 6. Remove key from ignition and check for operation. 7. The coding procedure can be repeated up to 4 times for additional remotes. 8. The ignition must be switched OFF between programming each remote control. Thanks for your efforts & help at yesterdays Regional meet Should this be added to a sticky?? David

That is something you code separately, using VCDS or equivalent, via the Central Locking module (35).
There's a thread (probably several) with the coding described; I know I added a detailed breakdown of the many security options in there myself.
