Glad they worked ok for you
They look a bit odd with a heat sink on one side and circuit board on the other but the light that they put out is awesome and they have been perfect in not throwing up any faults. Not the cheapest but im hoping they will last a good time

The substantial heat sink gives me the feeling that somebody has actually thought about the design and its longevity.

Great piece of kit for the money.

I just bought some of these and fitted them. Is there something with CANBUS that it sends out some kind of test pulse every 30 seconds or so? These LED lights both flash on and then off, once every 30 seconds or so when the ignition is on, when the engine is running and the lights are off or on auto. They come on fine when the lights are fully on and they don't do it when the ignition is off, but I wondered why they did this flashing? Anyone else notice this?

It's nothing at all to do with CANBUS. It is to do with the bulb-fault monitoring looking for resistive load.
I assume if they have the load resistor it is not the bulb, but if you fitted either of the bulbs while they were on or removed one, or wiggled it - it registers as a fault and they flash every 30 seconds. Usually turning the ignition and lights of for some (more than a quick off on, less than 5 minutes) time resets it.

Are the number plate lights monitored?
Whilst replacing my left hand number plate light with a non OEM reversing camera that had three leds in it to act as a number plate light I did some checks.
1 With left hand number plate light disconnected I switched the lights on, then tried switching on ignition, then started the engine. At no time did a fault register.
2 With the camera leds connected in place of the left hand number plate light I again carried out the above tests. Again no faults reported.

This makes me believe that these lights are not monitored. Just like the red door open warning lights and the puddle lights. If this is the case then the so called error free canbus resistors are not needed. Good news after my near disaster last year with a boot light.

I would like someone else to check this and let me know the results. Pretty please.

Thanks snapdragon, but no joy. They were still flashing this morning after the ignition being off for a good 15 hours or so. Tried turning the lights off too. Nothing seems to stop these from flashing. It's not a problem but nor is it right. Maybe time to try some different ones I think. I may just try some of those blue-glass incandescent ones. I only want the light to be white and don't care about it being too bright. Ho hum....

On my 2006 they are all monitored but they do not warn you on the CHECK in the cluster, they just register faults in control modules...(see below)

My license plate LEDs did not cause a code, but when fiddling with RVC I broke one of the connectors and so it is actually disconnected.

I can't give you a link as it was 2-3 years ago buy they were from ebay and had a choice of warm white or cool white (I chose warm) and have a metal heatsink on the top. I do recall though that the first ones I tried (already had in the house) flashed as you said. changing either one for the original made them both work (one LED and one not) so the load must be measured as the pair.

Thanks for that.
I'll head out to the car with laptop under arm on Saturday.
I have had a pretty hectic day with the handicapped kiddies and that darn wind is too sharp.
I'll keep you informed.

Snap, you are correct. No display warning light but fault codes recorded.
Managed to have some time in the 8 this evening, with VCDS.
I then looked a bit deeper and found other faults that I had missed like reading lights showing fault codes from when I had used the car with bulbs missing.
Back to the number plate lights, I'll have to check if the fault code comes up with just having the LEDs in the camera body being used as the left hand number plate lights. Then take action to solve that.
Will keep you informed.

Lot of fun these 8's.

I replaced mine last night with led's. Didn't bother with drilling, just sheared the heads off, seals in good shape, tiny dab of gel superglue either side and they are holding well and should be easy to remove again.

Looks much better, test before you put back together as I had to reverse one of mine to get it to work, no faults on dash and no faults with vcds..
