https://www.newscientist.com/article...dont-know-yet/

SARS-CoV-2 does not appear to be mutating - there are currently just two almost identical strains of it, therefore it is not unreasonable to believe that we can build an immune response to it, however there is no concrete evidence either way yet according to that article (25th March). Also, antibody responses to other types of coronavirus are fairly short term which may also apply to this one.

Flu mutates rapidly hence why there is a new variant and a new vaccine every year. If SARS-CoV-2 does that we're in a bit of a pickle...

Well, here’s a novel solution to the coronavirus pandemic. This is from my daily Bloomberg news feed, so not t’internet fake news:

A Navy captain commanding an airrcraft carrier pleaded for help from the Pentagon as infection spread among the thousands of sailors aboard the U.S.S. Theodore Roosevelt. The Pentagon responded by taking away his command.

I can't get delivery slots with Waitrose etc at all - registered as vulnerable, given my recent surgery and instructions to totally self-isolate for the next 12 weeks, but nothing much happening on that front. Their delivery booking page is now back online, but looked as far out as 5 July with not a single slot available!

Earlier in the week, the Waitrose grocery site just took you to a link to register on gov.uk to be considered for priority. I don't know anyone that's been contacted off the back of that.....

My wife ends up having to go to the shops, which wouldn't be an issue if it didn't carry an element of risk of her coming into contact with the virus and bringing it home with her

Try Sainsburys. Firstly they are (or will be) using the Government/NHS register (assuming you're on that - do check) and secondly there's a phone number to call which you should eventually get through to someone on if you're not an existing customer.

Well, they actually responded in that way because he made a rather large press release about it, which upset many senior folk somewhat..... I read about it this am too....

Its sad, but I'm very excited to get my Asda delivery tomorrow...... I booked it weeks ago like, and have been tweaking the order to get everything I will need......

As a family of 6, buying items 3 at a time for 18 meals a day becomes a daily task of my wife repeatedly visiting the shops to get basic supplies in.

Ironically, the local co-op has been discounting fresh food recently as people had been unable to buy more than 1 item, leaving it on the shelf to rot...

I'm sure it will all settle down into a routine soon. Clearly the food supplies are there, its just with no-one eating out, and even takeaways struggling to stay open, everyone in the country is now shopping for food - and - trying to stock up a little to create a buffer so we don't have to go mingle in the shops.....

I'm 80 which means I am officially an old man, but not received the promised Gov email or letter.
We have nine in house, 7 adults, Jordan 1 and Isaac 3.
Daughter out-out-law had an ASDA delivery booked for today but last night they cancelled it.
Something about left and right hands, bit like my two grey cells then.

Morrissons food boxes are available to order again, but it's a mystery box, you do not get to choose what you get. They show Sunday and Monday delivery available for me

The silly thing is you cannot even go for a drive, even if you stay in the car all the time and only get out when you are back at home. Essential travel only. I cannot remember when was the last time I used Cabriolet for 'essential' travel.

I suppose you could argue that you could break down or have an accident and take up valuable resources to deal with it. But you could also have a mental breakdown or go insane locked in your house. I would much prefer go for a drive in the isolation of my own car rather than go for a walk and try to zigzag between other people 'exercising' on the streets.

It's nice to know that online deliveries from major supermarket chains isn't just a local problem.
At the moment they were to shine and deliver us from having to interact with others, both Woolworths and Coles delivery services collapsed.

Happily we've found several small grocers and the secondary IGA chains (think Co-op equivalents) that are now commencing pick-up and delivery services.
Fortunately for us the case numbers are still relatively low at the moment, so going out doesn't feel so risky.

Good luck to all of you
