Out of interest, how much did they charge you for this 15 minute job?
Audi charged me £60 for mine and that was trade rates lol
Exactly the same price in cash. fair enough seeing they invested in all the equipment and subscription etc..
They used VAS connected to Germany and it would have removed CP from any modules. They seemed to have to go through guided fault finder in order to get authorisation. They aren't into adjusting mileages due to the dodginess of it. I tried VCDS adaptation but it says ERROR! - you can't do it after 10Km so will have to see the Albanian mafia.

How about taking a photo of the old display before you start and taking that with you when you ask them to ADD to the mileage.
I can understand the ethics thing if you were trying to lower the mileage.

So my final mystery as mentioned above - why was there a terminator on the plug for the CHECK and 0.0 RESET buttons in the walnut shroud such that they could not be plugged into the new cluster without removing it?
I have seen photos of late model A8 D3 with MMI3G and they still have these buttons present and lit up.
If anyone has >2008 A8 D3 with MMI3G do you have these buttons and how do they work with the cluster DIS or MMI screen?

Gutten Abend Snapdragon,
Sorry if I am being a bit silly!!
Were you able to connect the "CHECK/0.0" button to the cluster?
In other words, were you able to remove the blockage from the cluster and then insert the connecter.

It's OK, I like that. Yes, I was trying to plug it in blind and had a sinking feeling as it was obvious the connectors were a mismatch Grrrr!
But then on closer inspection it was a blanking plug with Audi logo and numbers on it. This was on the pigtail hanging from the new cluster - as though this connector was not used on the donor car. All I can think is that on later cars with MMI 3G, there is a different cable to the 0.0 & CHECK buttons that connects to somewhere other than the cluster.
Maybe the MMI? I know the SETUP button is gone from the HVAC on those as the MMI3G has the HVAC setup as a menu instead. I was wondering if CHECK had moved there too with the service info.

***EDIT - I'm now thinking it is just the plug's housing, it must have split/broken and been left inside the socket.

Hello from Australia,

I have a 4.2V8 with the small DIS and am keen to retrofit the wide screen.

Can you guys explain, since parts are very expensive here and rare (A cluster is around $2,000 pounds)

If I can buy a cluster, and swap the circuit panel for the needles and dials as per this picture?

If I install the dial panel (mounted on the white plastic in the pic) on a wide cluster, will it work, and will I get to keep my mileage?

I understand there will be some CP involved and I am happy with that, as long as it works. We use kph here.

Thanks for any info.

Mike

The chap who posted that picture tried and failed to make one from two and he's quite clued up on electronics so I would say no was the answer.

You can fit other units, have CP removed and mileage corrected by someone with the required equipment.

Clusters can be had for reasonable money over here and UK ones are both KM/MPH with emphasis on MPH

If you only wanted KMH germany ebay would be a better choice for you.

If you want kph, they are much cheaper from ebay Germany or allegro.pl - search for "a8 tacho" or just the part number (with and without spaces after every three characters)

Does anyone know the Audi part number for the None ACC Wide DIS for a W12?

My normal DIS one has decided to light up like a Xmas Tree constantly, turns out the start up light check is faulty so want to take this chance to swap to Wise DIS.

Also whats the maximum mileage possible that they can remove CP and put my mileage in? I know after a certain mileage it's not possible but I don't know what that is.

Cheers.

There is no maximum mileage for CP removal, but 100KM (~66miles) is the maximum mileage that the dealer can reset the miles so you will need to pay ~£50 to the Albanian mafia or similar.
For part number - best to look on here for options..
http://www.partscats.info/audi/en/?i...tgr=1234567890
and then look on ebay for the part numbers. I have a 2009 cluster in my 2006 and it works fine even though the part number is for later years.
