100k Ceramics
Law of averages...
What's the lifespan of ceramics on an S8? Car on sale with 100k, of course at some time, the cost of the discs will effectively write off the car, however, are they likely to be 50% worn or more at this stage of its life? |

There's only really one way to know if they are past there sell by date and that's to measure the weight of the disk and check the cracks are not in bad places
When I bought mine, it was at 50k so took the chance, if they go pear shaped I'll look in to replacing with steel discs and keep the big calipers

Sounds a feasible way of doing it, but can't find any info on the web about doing a swap. I'd say at 100k, I'm a bit too nervous!!

I read somewhere that they are expected to last the 'lifetime of the car' and that lifetime was deemed to be 180k miles. Of course it depends on how those miles are driven. Mine where all replaced on warentee at 23k miles but have done another 100k+ since then and still well within specs..... I let you know in another 80k miles how they are holding up.

Surely if there are no cracks or lips they are OK. I would just take them off and inspect them every couple of years.
Maybe spray them with crack detection spray such as that from Ambersil, but I would check it is suitable for brakes first. (It is for clutch linings so I assume so) |
