Default Another Successful Service

Just back from another perfect gearbox service from Makies, bit more expensive this time as I needed a new sump pan as the old one had become porous. Never felt anything wrong before service but certainly feels smoother afterwards

I agree - they're really good (even if I do have to drive 200+ miles to get to them ). It's a pity they've put their service price up a wee bit now, but as John pointed out to me, it's not increased for a quite a few years. Car definitely feels silkier after.

You must be getting hit with the "red interior surcharge" then Yesterday's was the same price as the last one I had in 2012. Or maybe you just look more affluent than me

I got the same price as before - "special rate" of £155, same as you, probably .

PS: have you really left it 7 years between gearbox flushes?

Yeah mine was that price too, and yes guilty as charged though it only covered 40k in that time..not sure what they reckon the correct mileage/years should be between services TBH. 2012 one was probably it's first at 10 years old and almost 90k

That's nothing, mine is couple months short of 22 years and I think still with factory oil in it.

I think the PF box is a much more robust box though

All D2 S8 have 5HP24A not the earlier 4HP24A that was on 4.2 1994-96.

Can anyone recomend a gearbox service near London and/or Bournemouth? I have a 2.8, so imagine it's not as specialist a job as the V8s?

Exactly the same job actually - just a slightly smaller gearbox. I think there's someone down the M3/M4 corridor who has the fluid exchange machine - hopefully someone local will chime in with who it is.
