And even if that doesn't cure it completely, it sounds like you've located the problem area; it's likely there may be some further corrosion on adjacent connections.

Yes, was driving me mad! I'm not letting myself get too excited just yet though. I won't know whether it's fixed until it goes for several days without stalling, so I'm commuting nervously at the moment.

Just checking in to say that I've now gone a full week, for a total of 9 hours of driving without any issues at all. Almost certain I've got it.
