The Aisin Warner box was beefed up in 2005 so you should be ok. Running it on good quality super unleaded or Shell Vpower will reduce the chance of engine wear

I thought the box dropped the cogs in certain situations when toeing it pretty harshly. Nothing like as smooth as the S8 when you gunned it in those situations, or to be precise the initial drop down if i can call it that. Its not mine anyhow, just a PX a colleague in the trade took in, and is using it for a bit so i borrowed it.

The box is the weakest part of the car, they never got the mapping right. It's still a very clever machine just a flawed one. Great to try and hand back like your doing. Mark 2s are much much better.

Regarding the scoring issue, do you guy know if this is limited to the 4.5 V8? I've read in some places that the problem was resolved on the 4.8, in other places that it wasn't

The 4.8 is not totally immune to cylinder scoring, I've personally only seen one over the past couple of years, that was a particularly abused example and heard of a couple of others. The issue does not appear to be anywhere near as bad as the 4.5 though, also Porsche changed their engine supplier for the 4.8 from the 4.5 which seems to have improved reliability. Some of the 4.8 failures will also be down to owner error, these engines are very sensitive to oil level, grade and fuel octane.
Porsche aren't the only ones to be affected by this problem, it's throughout the industry. The really annoying thing is that none of the manufacturers admit to it and pick up the bill! |

I really like the Cayenne, always wanted one. The engine problem reports put me off.
There is even a manual version which is the one I would have gone for. Also the 2nd gen loses the low range transfer box and is a lot lighter? |
