It's criminal really to be charging for adjustment as it should be covered by hourly rate.

I think they try and recoup the cost of the kit through the high initial charges rather than writing it off over a fixed period like they do for most fixed assets. Then you have the great unknown of how long it's going to take to free off siezed suspension components before you can make the adjustment - some obviously just worst-case it and charge the earth up front! If they don't have problems it's a tidy profit, if they do then they've covered the additional time needed

Get out of here, they need the kit to perform the task, so if they’ve not got it they can't even do it. So buying the kit is an investment in the business.

The great unknown of undoing seized nut / bolts can happen anywhere on the car, or to that snapping one. So it’ll take longer and therefore the customer will pay more. You can’t just take worst case and everyone pays that.

They should be wearing stripy shirts and masks.

Sounds very similar to my experience recently. Had a puncture repaired and the garage pointed out that I needed two new front tyres urgently.

Boll****, I thought. Until he showed me...

They put two Pirelli P-Zeros on and then put it on their Hunter alignment machine to try and rectify the toe and camber (which caused the unusual wear), raised the car up and the rears are now perfect and the front alignments are better than they were. The mechanic said if he adjusted the front camber any more, the rubber stopper would snap so that needs to be replaced at some point before any more alignment is done.
