ABS TC Angel sensor faults, brake pedal switch ??
Hi guys
I'm trying to figure out what is going on with my mate's D3, he gets constantly ABS, TC faults plus VCDS gives steering angle sensor fault, but EVERYTHING is working fine. It happens during the first breaking and left turn and on motorways during the breaking. I looked at current flow diagrams in Elsa and I can see that brake pedal switch is connected or gives feedback to all this modules, and brake pedal switch is a common fault in D3 and it can cause various faults, such as ESP fault when you press brake pedal while on gear, engine on, for to long. I don't want to start changing steering angle sensor or wheel sensors or abs pumps because everything is working as it should So brake pedal switch is first on the list coz often very simple things can cause serious looking faults. When calibrating steering angle sensor and watching readings in measuring blocks sensor gives a value of -17degree when straight and wheels straight so I'll be looking into this as well. Any idea why sensor can give such a reading, 17 degrees off thats a lot. I know tat controller may not accept the calibration properly and seen that some people where doing calibration for even 2 hours until it got accepted. What are you thought guys?? Cheers

Could be an ABS sensor, or a wheel bearing on the way out, causing the signal to fluctuate. My PF did similar when the rear bearing went, damaged the sensor and half the stuff on the car shut down with a pile of fun beeps when you got in.. Was like an 80's arcade

Interesting wheel bearing but there would be a noise at least when turning but there is nothing.
ABS sensor is another thing on the list, but would that cause a possible -17 degree reading on the steering wheel sensor when everything is in straight line?? Cheers PsYcHe, appreciated

i would have guessed at ABS sensor too. Has he got staggered wheels and tyres on it or are they all the same sizes? It also sounds like the symptoms that you get when the system is trying to sort out an imbalance in rolling radius between wheels etc. if the difference is more than 1-1.5% then the system just sees constant faults, worth a look anyways

To me it sounds like steering angle sensor has not been calibrated properly possibly after suspension or steering component change, wheel alignment.

You'd have thought.. but I had no noise when mine went, though it was a rear..

Just to update you base on your replies, which are very appreciated.
There was no work done to suspension or steering components. Could steering angle sensor decalibrate itself just like that if this is an issue with sensors calibration?? No other work done to the car. Wheels he has got for at least a year now, longer than existence of this faults, are 275/35/20, which I think are incorrect coz on 20" he should have 255/35/20, correct?? No noise from the wheel bearings. PsYcHe, when your one went, is thats when you got all the faults and beebs, or it started before it went?? After some test drive today for first two hours nothing, hard breakings, turns and breakings, nothing, but when drove over the bumpy rail tracks the fault lights came on straight away, so could that be a poor connection (we will be stripping it down over the weekend after doing carbon on my car). Causes are just inconsistent, for period of time errors come on during certain maneuvers then it all comes back to normal and something else completely different is causing same faults. Very very weird Now I doubt is a brake pedal switch at all. ABS sensor as you suggested or wiring on ABS sensor. Plus that calibration on steering wheels sensor, but the problem here is that each time login was accepted same as the whole procedure, but when wheels are straight there is exactly -17 degree reading. Really confusing

Not necessarily, no. I have standard Audi SE 20" alloys on my D3 and they have 275/35/20 fitted as standard and I believe the S8 had 265/35/20 fitted as standard. Not sure about 255s.

255/35/20 were a standard fit too.. depends if it's 8.5 or 9 rims.
The errors were after the bearing went, and no noise from the bearing beforehand.. Though looking at the errors on VCDS it does seem to be something more electrical...
