The 335D isn't that common actually or overly diesel sounding. I love an advert BMW had for the slower 330D. It went 'Faster then a Porsche Boxster, more economical then a Fiat Punto'

Anyway; the only reason I'm smug is because I get the pi55 taken out of me for having a diesel Bimmer, everyone knows my heart lies with the D2, or else I wouldn't be here!

330d, 335d, 530d, 535d in no way sound like diesels

I had a 530d E60, and it would whip to the 155 limiter faster than the D2 S8 - sounded lovely too, a real straight 6 sound when pushed.

Yes, Diesel, and Bimmer - two words which I ought to add to the censorship lists on this forum

If it were anyone else, you'd have been moderated a long time ago, but we'll let you off as its only an 'inbetweener'

On a slightly more serious note though - I know that rear wheel drive is good for the whole driving experience, and I agree that in the hands of a good driver and/or on excellent roads in good weather, it'll be a hoot, but I really, really, really think that BM* missed a trick not bringing the 4 wheel drive 3 & 5 series to the UK - Yes, it might not have driven as well as the rear wheel drive one would allow in optimal condition, but I bet the other 90% of the time in the crappy british weather, it could have been a serious contender for Audis 'quattro' market.... BM* do make some good diesel engines.

Essentially, if you want an all wheel drive luxury saloon, then your choices are pretty limited in this country...

i do agree with that witch is why im so surprised that audi have not jumped in and made an adaptive quattro that can be rear wheel drive or 4 wheel drive i had a Driver controlled central diff in my subaru and i could wind it right in at the switch of a button and have 90% power to the rear and when it got bad weather i simply opened it up and it was about 60% rear and 40% front was good and the build quality was cr&p to be honest but yet it worked and it was a hell of a drive you could S F the car and give it the beans and hold a perfect slide with it and be in full control (private roads i might add)

why is it a company with such stature as Audi can not make something of this nature ??

They sell to a different market?

Subaru and Audi are just totally different on just about every metric (web speak)
My wife has a Subaru Forrester & me an Audi and we differ in just about every conceivable way (although I am getting blonder by the decade).
One thing though. For all the unbelievable crappiness of the Subaru interior my moneys on it for reliability and longevity (sorry guys)

I've got my eye on a Merc E320 DI steel thing for her, but it appears the house renovations, decorating, carpets, curtains etc come first.

See she's just plain different, to me. Bit like Audi v Subaru

yes they are totally different i agree but what my point is that audi could well make a 4 wheel drive car that is interchangeable between 4 wheel drive and rear wheel drive but they dont ??

A lot (can't remember exact %) of power now does go to the back in the modern day torisen quattro. The driver can't fiddle with it themselves though. I know on the older haldex simply pulling a fuse out of a TT/A3 would make it front wheel drive.
It isn't just the rear drive that makes my car such a joy to drive. Its the balance, and the chassis. It's sad to see Audi come second to BMW in 99% of any car mag that ever tests the relevant models against each other. But I can see why now.

And yes Ian! I'm going to be in an special Audi soon. I can't wait!

I hope you get the RS, I know you've wanted one for a while. Just dont underestimate the cost of keeping her pristine - Everything costs more on an RS as many things are uprated, servicing, brakes and dont forget all the fuel

Above all, get a security system that leaves you confident that someone wont want to attempt to take it, and better still, keep it locked away in the garage and never on show at home.

The fear of theft, and possible harm/shock to family in order to steal it, was the main reason I sold my RS6, otherwise I'd have probably kept it...

I live in a relitively good area, but scum will travel to steal things to order sadly....

I'm having the home remodelled in anticipation for the RS, my parents are going to kill me
Fitting a bigger wider gate, and ripping out their garden stuff. It will be secure and hidden thats for sure. I think I may be streching myself just a little too much so will wait a few months for the right one, but if a real bargain comes up i'll buy it. Its nota matter of if just when now. The great thing is Aviva will cover my pops on an open driver policy on my BMW so I can still drive that for 10 hours a week to work but need to wait until my next birthday in November until I'm eligible for that. That will free up a slush fund.

amar as a must you should get an anti-hijack imobiliser. it is the best security device i ever had. even if they take it from you at the traffic lights or they get it from your home then you will be safe and they will only be able to drive for a mile
