Default Thermostat D2 FL S8

Hi All.
This is on a 2002 FL S8
Is the thermostat a timing belt off job?
My local; specialist did the cambelt + last year and didn't do the thermostat.
Now it needs doing and advised they need to take the cambelt off to do it..

I thought I had instructed them to change the stat, but cannot find any emails to prove....anyway what do to?
Please advise.

From the work I've done on the car, I would say a definite yes, but I do recall seeing a post somewhere where they said they could do it without removing it, by just prising it forward, which I reckon would be very tight and need multiple hands.

If you look at image 688, I've highlighted where the thermostat is, behind that metal pipework. Image 423 shows what's in front of 688, and image 680 shows what's in front of 423. Take into account that I also had the entire front end off the car, but I needed to do that. This is a 3.7 engine, but the 4.2 has a very similar layout.

EDIT: Found the link, with video, but the engine is out of the car!

Many thanks.
In all fairness to the garage.
They have agreed to do the stat at just a few hrs labour.
the rest they will stand.
Can we still get Audi thermostats?

The part number is 077121113C, superseded by 077121113D, and according to ETKA, is still available.

Great.
I will advise the garage.
They did advise they wanted to use OEM Audi part.
I will definitely not be supplying the thermostat!!

Did they change the water pump? I thought that the water pump and thermostat changes were ‘standard procedure’ when doing the cam belt.

Hi.
Yes, they did the Water Pump....pullies, idlers etc.
The instruction I gave was 'do everything. as I could see by the history that the belt was 9yrs old and the rest was original.
Now also found as you look at the engine it needs left (so drivers side) front engine mount. Looks as though I can't get one from Audi any thoughts?

Part numbers for the drivers side, which ETKA classes as the right side (for engine stuff - #5 in the attached image), is 4D0199381AH, superseded with 4D0199381AT. There are a couple of new ones one eBay, both listed as genuine, but please take note that the seller only has a feedback of '3'. The listings are as follows:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/145012897517

Audi Tradition in Germany have the AT version:

This is the correct designation of ‘right side’. For all ‘side’ references, the viewpoint should be from the driver’s seat. Hence ‘left hand drive’, for example. This also avoids any confusion in using terms like ‘driver’s side’, which obviously varies by country, as some countries still persist in driving on the wrong side of the road!
