Default PDC/ Parking Sensors - 6cm of Death

Evening Ladies and Gents,

So the PDC on the S8 D2 started to just do the long beep, light not flashing but clearly something up with the parking sensors.

Hooked up VAGCOM, no errors but Rear Left Centre Sensor was showing 6cm on the measuring blocks and the rest were 255cm and voltage all good at 12.9v.

Right then, new sensor ordered (4B0 919 275 A) and put in, though this made no change and still constant beep with 6cm showing in VAGCOM.

Other sensors seemed to work and respond etc on VAGOM so swapped over a working one to the location of the 6cm one, same result.

Cleaned all the connectors, checked the wiring looked ok and nothing broken/ fallen off and used some contact cleaner into the connectors also.

Same result........

Rear Left Centre Sensor 6cm.

Next step was to order a spare PDC ECU from A8 Parts (4D0919283) to swap over.

Did all of that work and replaced the PDC ECU.

Still.....

Rear Left Centre Sensor 6cm.

Therefore could I ask for the collective wisdom of the group in case I am missing something really obvious?

First thing that springs to mind - is the sensor fitted in to the bumper properly? I assume yes, but if they're pushed back even slightly they can detect the edge of the bumper moulding.

Second thing is what does it do with the sensor unplugged? Still 6cm in which case wiring issue, or an open circuit fault?

Its an odd failure for sure.

I checked and reseated it a couple of times to make sure so the sensor is flush with the bumper.

If removed I get open circuit to ground (or something like that) on VAGCOM.

I've had the same and in the end I replaced part of the PDC loom in the bumper and 2 sensors. Do a continuity test from the main plug to the sensor plugs on all the plugs and go from there

Interesting and cheers

I have just ordered a loom from our good friends at A8 parts and will have a go with that next weekend.

Not much money so just grabbed a good used one and can test the wires/ swap over as needed.

Update

Picked up another D2 Rear PDC Bumper Wiring Loom (4D0971085B) from A8 parts and installed that today (Great service as always )

Yep...

No difference.

Had a look at the ECU and the wiring from it in the boot and it seems OK but everything has now been changed apart from that loom.

Next up I will work out what cables are what for the sensor reporting 6cm and then put in some temporary new wires to see if that fixes it. If it does I will solder in some new wires from the ECU down to the rear sensor.

Have you tried measuring resistance on each sensor? When I've fixed mine I had a code for front right not working, but out of 4 of them front middle right had much lower resistance than the rest even though it was working and after I replaced it with a cheap Chinese one all sensors started working
