Presumably you've tried them both ways round as the polarity matters?

It really shouldn't matter if they're CANBUS or not, but the second ones linked to look like an older (dimmer) type; I always buy SMD ones (usually yellow squares) as they're better.

My numberplate LED's failed a while back and it happened to get noticed while it was being (majorly) serviced so the garage (Fontain) put in standard bulbs. I haven't bothered replacing them and for a rear yellow numberplate it doesn't really matter so not sure if/when I will.

Did you see the comment in my wheels thread on SRS? Someone there said you might be interested in my PF Avus 18's for winter wheels when I free them up - not yet though........

if they are the same as the D3 then I think you need 0.5W rather than 1W ones so the resistance through the 2 bulbs doesn't seem to cause any issues but the details on yours dont seem to say what they are?

No, information is rather sparse on that site. I'll check their resistance tonight as well.

I have tried them both ways Andrew and also put a meter on them to conform the diodes are allowing flow both ways (they do out of interest, so polarity doesn't matter).

As mentioned I'll check the resistance later, but I have also been thinking along the lines of swapping to standard bulbs. Does it really matter against the yellow number plate?

I'd not seen your winter wheels thread, but I am interested. My problem is one of money right now. Do they (or will they) have winter tyres on, or is it just the wheels?

Could be either, though the thread was based on without tyres as S3/S4 drivers wouldn't want S8-sized tyres. See: http://audisrs.com/about57039.html

Its in the panel that covers the pedal box and takes air from the central hvac unit to the floor vents. Same piece as on RHD but opposite

I figured that much but I don't see where the lens would mount to. This is what my pedal box panel box looks like. Now thinking about it, I wonder if this is the correct panel since my car had a 6 speed swapped in?

I think it might be that hole above the brake pedal, but it doesn't look quite right - something missing?
Maybe been cut to accommodate the clutch pedal?

Its been rather brutally chopped out to make room for the clutch pedal

There's a factory cut-out panel for the clutch pedal in that panel so why its been hacked is anyone's guess.

The part number is 4D1819801C in case you want to search for a replacement.
