Default Tip not working and late changes? Please help

Hi everyone.

Please help if you can

This morning i left my driveway as normal in drive and noticed that it did not change up untill 3000ish rpm, i was only using part throttle.

I then noticed that on the dash it was not showing it was in "D" but all letters were highlighted red.

So i tried tiptronic mode and nothing! It Just drove as if it was in "D".

No warning lights at all!

Is this somthing i can reset?

Im in the bournemouth airea if anyone can help with diagnostics?

Any help would be appreciated

Many thanks

James

All the letters highlighted red are indications of a fault, the box has gone into limp home mode and running an emergency limited program.

You need to get the car scanned by a specialist or VCDS to go any further as there are lots of causes, some cheaper than others to fix (one Very expensive).

I'm on the edge of Blandford if thats any help, I can scan it but cannot advise on any fixes required.

If there are no symptoms aside from the box being in limp mode (which basically gives you 3rd gear and reverse!) once you're on open roads and don't need to go between P R and D, try pulling over and turning off, then restarting with it in N. If it will then drive normally then your most likely cause is the range select switch aka F125.

As above VCDS will show this as a stored fault if that's the reason.

Don't drive it far in limp mode as it puts extra strain on the box.

Thanks guys,

i also thought it was in limp mode but all gears engage in drive. It drives normaly still shifting smoothly enough through all gears!

I have a scan tool coming in the post so i will see how i get on with that.

Thanks for the info and i will do some reasearch on the f125.

If i was to dissconnect the battery for 15mins would this reset the fault as its not in limp mode as such as all gears work?

Thanks again

James

Fault code reader arrived today. Fault codes cleared and now back to normal.

Will see if the fauld comes back and will go from there if it does.

I think this may have been my fault as i did get a little trigger happy with the tiptronic on a spirited drive the nite before.

Will keep you posted if the fault comes back.

Thanks again for your help

James

Hi
I cant remember what the actual code number was, but it was for the range control position switch, once cleared it has not returned.

I only ordered a cheap vag code reader for £18 i think off ebay, just to see if the fault would come back then if it did i would shell out for the real vag com.

How did you get the fault cleared if you have no code reader?

James

Hi jimbo,

All I did was as suggested by a member on the forum, just stopped turned off the ignition even withdrew the key just in case! Stared up as normal and the fault was gone, and so far not reappeared, we can only hope...
