Alternator/voltage regulator failure today
What a day. My beloved S8, having been entirely reliable for the past seven years or so of my ownership, had an alternator/voltage regulator fail on me en route home work today...... with only the RAC to rely on, it was a very long, scary nearly 3 hours, before they got to me, even though I had been "prioritised" by them as a lone vulnerable female in a car with no electrics whatsoever down a rural road in the middle of nowhere.....
The alternator is not charging at all, and all systems had shut down, RAC guy cobbled 5 batteries together and drove behind me all the way home as he said there was a TEN HOUR DELAY for a recovery low loader. So the S8 is at home but really needs a mobile auto electrician or someone who can get at the alternator / voltage regulator as recovering her to a garage is going to be difficult due to our steep, narrow driveway, we'll not get a recovery truck up the drive and I don't have five batteries to cobble together to get her going again!!!! Any recommended mobile techs who cover the Midlands (I'm in Burton on Trent) and particularly anyone who understands S8's? Advice would be appreciated..... |

You do not need 5 batteries. Just charge it up and drive to the garage

OMG Will start with the voltage regulator I think....
I'm not looking forward to getting that huge battery out to recharge again.....it only just fits into its box and I have to climb into the boot to do it and can hardly lift the thing....... |

Thanks Ben, you're a star - have replied to email and hope to meet soon!
Yes, will try to charge in situ as the battery is a real nuisance to get out of that small space |
