Default The Crap won't charge.

Just changed my fuel pump, (witch by the way wasn't fried, alltho the fuel gauge sender is). AND when i was taking the car for at test run i saw that my alternator light was glowing slightly. Then 4min in to the test run i started getting all sorts of warnings from the MID. First battery fault, then i lost my ABS and ESP. Then my headlights went out and i started to understand what was going on, and tried to rush back "home" to my workshop. But I didn't come that far since the car suddenly died. I got the car towed back to the shop and hocked up the charger and let it charge over night and until 30min ago.

BUT, the car still won't charge. And i didn't get any indications that something was wrong with the charing system before it stopped due to loss of fuel last weekend. Is it possible the ECM goes in retard mode or something? Or this might bee a common fault? Realy starting to get sick of shait coming in nice big packages when something happens with this car.

Nightmare i know how you feel i've had mine die on me.

Have a look under the car just behind the front right wheel, there is a box there with a big wire running from the boot, it then splits to the starter and alt. You might have a cover over the plastic box. Check here for green powdery corrosion.

There is more info on this on here somewhere.

If the battery won't take a charge then the battery will need replacing.

If the car won't crank then there is a possibility that the corrosion that dezzy mentions is causing poor contacts at either the positive supply to the starter motor of the earth strap from chassis to engine block (as I found on mine).

If the car starts but won't charge from the alternator then the block where the stater motor cable meets the battery cable also has the wire from the alternator. Strip, wire brush and resemble with plenty of petroleum jelly and see if that helps.

If non work then maybe a new alternator.

In addition to Mike (conan's) suggestion, I would use some ACF 50 corrosion block grease, which though pricey, is really good stuff.
I used it for 5 years on my jetski (when I was fit & uninjured enough to use it) used solely in a sal****er environment, and never suffered with any corrosion problems.
Also- I'd recommend their ACF50 spray (in hand pump - £30/litre) for corrosion resistance in wiring connectors..
I still use these on my Harley, 4x4 & 8 & have thusfar had no problems...
