Over here it's simply
"Statutory" or "Non-statutory" Write Offs. Statutory write-offs are where there is structural damage which makes the car unsafe to be put back on the road. Non-Statutory write-offs (the vast majority) are when repairs become uneconomical in relation to the value of the car. So repairable write offs. These can be put back on the road if so desired, but must pass a VicRoads inspection at their facilities.

All features as the '01, with the 'S' mode auto shifter. Dodgey rear tint (need to find a way to get rid of that). Family: 2009 Volvo XC90 V8 R Design - has a louder more obnoxious exhaust than the S8, sounds great! Love this thing - Q7 was double the price, and certainly not double the car! Back on with this one after getting back from Germany, since it has a new home to go to. In order to keep the sale price sensible (and avoid delays ordering parts), some recycled parts are being used in this one where appropriate.
One of the tie rod end boots was split so tried taking the old one off but it was totally seized in to the tie rod Fine. Sawzall then The tie rod was pretty nasty so no great loss Everything removed and cleaned up Replacement tie rod and greased up the rack This clip is not fun to do with the rack in the car! Started putting the interior back together. It had the remnants of an old Nokia car kit, so pulled the tunnel sides to remove all that.
More random wires Wait, whats that doing just dangling? The wires for the shifter postion light have become detatched 'somehow' If there's one thing I'm not short of, its auto shifters so that's easy enough to fix. Noticed a loose penny sitting down by the shifter! Poked it down under the sound deadening and then retrieved it from the footwell This is the first D2 I've had in the workshop which has an intact starter junction box. Leave that alone for a change |

I noticed the AC compressor wasn't kicking in so checked the gas - none present! So, took it to get re-gassed, but the compressor still wouldn't kick in. Poked around for a bit and discovered the compressor was seized Took all the gas out again, and went back to the workshop to swap it over.
Its a piece of cake on the V8 - three bolts and it drops out of the bottom. Not so on the V6 - the oil cooler is in the way Oil filter off and AC hoses removed. The oil cooler coolant hose also has to come off so the coolant needs draining too Ideally the cooler would come off too, but since its not leaking and I don't have a spare o-ring its staying put. That makes this bolt rather tricky to get to The compressor just fits out between the cooler and chassis leg Cleaned up the space it came out of All back together ready for regassing a second time Since I had the coolant out its a convenient point to swap out some compromised cooling system components. The expansion tank was broken at the top vent pipe The T-piece was also cracked and leaking As was one of the heater bleed valves The vent hose is attached right down here and was also leaking Turns out the clip had been mashed up so the hose just pulled off! This was quite a mess Conveniently I have a V6 donor car (not Big Red!) which relinquished a perfect set of replacement parts I also replaced the radiator vent hard-line with the very last one ever, as these became NLA after I ordered this one This might be something else I need to re-engineer in a different material. |
