digging up an old thread here but i need some help!

ive just got an AHC ecu and ive tried coding it with vagcom but it will not save when i code it to manual. i can change the from 2wd-4wd and it'll save, but no luck between auto and manual.

Im wondering if i need a login code and where to get one!

current code is 04373 and i want 04213.

Thanks in advance

Hi
If it is a ECU from a A8, my understanding is it wont have the manual coding on it.
I was able to switch coding on my S8 ECU from Auto to Manual with no log-in required, because coding is already on the chip.
There are ways around it without coding, Tozo in the USA did it, let me see if I can find his post.
So you converted your A8 to manual gearbox?

Here is his A8 thread, not sure how much info you can get from it.

The other option is to pay someone to flash it with custom code to ignore the TCU then you can remove and junk that thing.

AHC will be from S8. I tried on mine and it's the same- can change with ESP or without but not to manual. Maybe because TCU is still connected and communicating with ECU. Or maybe if it is early S8 like mine and manual was only introduced later there will be no coding for manual on early S8 examples until they actually started making manual.

Thanks for the info, the ecu is from a 98 s8. I wanted to use the AHC ecu to run my ABZ in an audi coupe conversion I'm doing. Tried getting the original ecu chipped but couldn't be done as was an early 4 speed auto so apparently couldn't be done.

Need to see if I can get a manual file flashed to it perhaps?

Definitely worth a try flashing it if you can get the manual chip code from someone. Or perhaps a clever coder can write custom code so it doesn't expect input from the TCU.
According to VagCat 1998 S8 with AHC came with a manual version, although ECU has a separate part code:

(5) 4D0907557G engine control unit 'MOTRONIC' / manual- gearbox: AHC
(5) 4D0907557N engine control unit 'MOTRONIC' / automatic: AHC

Yeah I have the part no ending with an 'n' typical.

Not sure how/where I can flash with a manual code.

Has anyone actually re coded an AHC ecu to manual? An if so, how!?

Both ABZ and AHC ECU are not flashable as such, you need to desolder memory chip, read the software, modify it then write in a new chip as original chip is write once only. Then solder it back in. The new chip can be re-writable if you want and you can solder a socket in ECU in which you just plug the new chip in so that it is easier to flash in the future.

I have another ECU, I think both the one in car and the spare one were 'N' but could be wrong, I will check tomorrow and also try to code the other one if I get time.

Ok cool I'd appreciate it if you could. Otherwise have you re-programmed these chips before? Or know someone who can!? Again thanks for you input. The only other problem I can see is, depending in which coding I run will determine my CPS location. Obviously I favour the manual position for my box.

I have not reprogrammed them yet but it's on my to do list. I have a friend who has the tools but it's mostly for newer stuff, not sure if it has anything suitable, will have to check.

Both mine are 'N', I have not tried to swap the other one in and try it but I guess it will be the same.

All the ECU's for all PF V8 should be the same in hardware, just different software in them. I have attached file from 4D0907557G with manual gearbox which you can write in new memory chip and solder in ECU.

The memory chip you need is PLCC44 M27C1024 like this one : http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tchlink:top:en postage is a bit expensive so you might want to search to see if you can get them cheaper but I could not find any on ebay.co.uk.

And you might want to get a socket as well for ease of change in future: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3M-8444-21...item51ae77e43f

Speak to tuners to see if they can program and solder a chip or socket in your ECU. I will in the meantime check with my friend to see if he has adapter for PLCC44 for his programmer but I doubt it.

Thumbs up

Thank you for all this essential info! I'm a bit in the dark when it comes to the tuning side of things, but will do some research and find a tuner.

Let me know if you come up with any more info.
