Default Genuine filters - cabin / pollen, oil, air

I notice people use aftermarket filters from time to time. Genuine filters for the D2 really aren't that expensive if you can get a bit of discount from TPS. Service stuff like this comes under their 'Parts Club' promotion with usually close to 50% discount, the same as with oil.

The cabin filters now come as a pair on part number 4D0 898 438A. Retail price is £52.85, Parts Club only £29 (inc vat). The genuine ones are proper activated carbon, and actually fit properly. Fitment on some of the aftermarket ones is horrid.

Air filter 077 129 620D - retail £24.40, Parts Club £13.40.

FL V8 oil filter 021 115 562A - retail £18.34, Part Club £9.53.

That's facelift V8 sorry. The prefacelift does indeed come with the other bits Part number for that is 077198563. The price is much the same IIRC.

Part number for the V6 oil filter is 078115561J for PF and FL.

TPS are indeed excellent and recommended.

Could I ask is the Parts Club something you join, have to request or the enthusiast in the street gets the discount automatically?

TPS are supposed to be trade only, but some branches do still deal with the public. It helps a lot if you go in with part numbers rather than 'I need a widget for a somethingorother'.

Parts Club is just the name of their promotion for fast-moving parts like filters, brakes etc which are more heavily discounted than ordinary bits and pieces. Its not an actual club

Default cabin smell - filter ?

Hi just picking up on this thread. Am a new owner just 1 week in and looking at a few things.

Gave the car a good clean of the leather and the inside generally at the weekend as there was a distinct whiff in the cabin. A lot better now but still a bit of a musty smell, especially if on 'eco' mode on the air con.

This has made me think that a change of the cabin filter would be a good place to start - any comments or other suggestions ?

Welcome. I find the aircon does often smell a bit odd if you turn it onto econ. The solution is to not do that but just leave it on Auto all the time.
Does it actually work effectively and produce adequate cooling?

You could also have some extra dampness from the infamous blocked orange drains or scuttle drains.

Probably a bit of old water somewhere, does the windscreen mist up too? It's good practice to clear the drain lines if you can anyway.

Might as well also change the cabin filter for a few quid if you aren't sure when it was last done.

Remember the cabin filters are actually on the underside of the bonnet. They're pretty well protected there (and in a nice warm place!) so wouldn't normally get residual damp.

Not like other cars I've had where water drains straight from the windscreen into the pollen filter area if not properly sealed. Oh wait, with a D2 we get that with more critical stuff, like ECUs.

If it's musty-smelling all the time, check that your carpets aren't damp. some of your drains might be blocked. If it's just a little musty-smelling for a short while, immediately after turning the aircon off (eco), that's fairly normal.

If it's more of a cheesy/smelly-feet kind of smell, you might need to disinfect your aircon. I find aircon 'bombs' work quite well, such as these:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3-TINS-PM...e/172666948361

You can use them as instructed (ie close all doors/windows and set one off inside the car, with the aircon on the lowest temperature and recirculating) or, another way I find works well, is to spray them into the cabin ventilation intake (under the bonnet) with the aircon on full (and without recirculation).
