Default Fuel Pump DIY

Need some advice and apology if it has been discussed before.

The Fuel pump on my S is deceased and the "Stealers" want R 11K to replace the whole unit........ (They are only Parts Replacers)

I can get the original VDO Pump for a quarter of that price....

Is it possible to dismantle the unit and just replace the pump ???
As per pic Below.

I would also replace the O rings .... possibly fuel line dependant on condition and necessary clamps etc.
Then a new Fuel Filter which will be replaced regularly due to this being
the cause of the pump failure but not an Audi Service Maintenance Item....
Which in SA I feel is a major oversight on the part of Audi SA
due to the quality of our local fuel.....

Audi will do the removal and re-installetion of the Unit for me....

Any thoughts Gents ?? ....... because I have hunted high and low on the interweb to no avail.

You can just replace the pump by removing it from the housing, I found a guide a while ago but seem unable to find it again.

It looks very similar to the pump I replaced on my Range Rover recently.
The cause of my failure and looking at your picture it looks to be the same was a badly worn commutator and worn brushes.

i have opened mine up when i had problems with the car starting and ended up being the tracker. but i took it out to test it and was good experience gained for when i do need to do mine.its a mission to get out after twisting and turning it and i do have a diagram showing how to do it but it will still take some messing about to remove and even more to get it back in.you can seperate the lower half of the pump and get access to the motor.its just some effort to get it back together and to make sure the thing seals up properly

Thanks for all the advice Gents.

I collected the Pump from Audi Dealer yesterday and will be dropping it
at a Fuel pump Specialist who will do the necessary for me.

At this stage I am looking at about R 3 000 cost compared to the "Stealers" R 11 500.

On the left side is a sender only. The one pump draws from both sides, if you reseat it correctly
