I wouldn't roll the window down in the meantime but equally wouldn't be concerned about it getting any worse through everyday driving.

There was a video somewhere on Youtube of a guy going at a D3's side glass with a sledge hammer for a couple of minutes before it was bendy and broken up enough to be peeled back with Kevlar gloves so I can't imagine a big screwdriver or even a few blows from a DIY hammer would compromise the security of the car but it's sh!t when damage is left by some little **** trying and failing.
Interesting stuff. Thanks The pr codes I have for the glass are
VW8 = Side and rear windows, burglar-restrained
4GP = Windshield in heat-insulating glass
And I have an Audi number matching replacement en route, fingers crossed it's the same.

I'll have to find that video tonight you mentioned

Thanks mate. It's only glass replacement and I'm relieved they didn't touch the body and paintwork.

New glass installed this afternoon. With this I had to opportunity to clean all the seals and rubber around the glass frame and door. Plus another job that I now need a new lower door trim as my existing one has started to warp and leave a large gap. I tried to make it look good but without success. This is due to rusting around the mounting points on the trim and putting it out of plumb. Meanwhile I sealed the lower door with some 3M transparent vinyl.
