Back on topic, mine doesn't do this. I checked yesterday and, when you release the foot brake it moves forwards gently without throttle to around 5mph on the flat, and then it needs some throttle to accelerate much further.

I'll check again today when it's cold, but I don't recall my previous S8 'straining at the leash' either (over to you for comment David).

Like The Laird's, mine is about the same - you have to hold it back but there is no feeling of it trying to accelerate away beyond a gentle jog. And there shouldnt be a need to go to park (tho' I frequently put it in neutral if at a stop for any length of time if only to stop my brake lights blinding the person behind). If you go to park you run it thru' reverse which can be disconcerting for any one behind when the reverse lights briefly come in!!

Yes, I too will drop into neutral if anything more than a few seconds stop is anticipated.

Of course our other vehicle (unless overridden) will normally kill the engine anyway in such a situation, restarting as you take your foot off the brake.

Mine gets very grumpy in D when it's stationary. It vibrates the whole car so I'll drop it in to N at traffic lights etc. The idle has got a bit lumpy again recently though so that's probably not helping. New O2 sensors I think.

I can trickle mine away from a standing start without touching the throttle - useful on early morning starts! I wouldn't say mine strains to pull away - it holds a steady idle at about 800rpm from memory.

I tend to favour leaving mine in D unless I am stuck in a jam or at a level crossing for a while. In usual traffic light delay it doesn't seem worth moving out of D, and from memory it isn't recommended due to wear on the selector mechanism

I sometimes put my car in neutral and let it coast. I then brake it to a halt, and there's a slight thump just as it stops.

If I leave it in 'D', there's no thump.

Is this normal for a FL S8??
