Default Outside temp sensor

My outside temp sensor has gone somewhat wonky and decided it was -45c. It began to recover slowly (10 minute drive and it was up to -19c) but it does mean that the aircon also thinks it's cold and has shut up shop until it's warmer than 5c. Does anyone know where the errant sensor is loitering? Hopefully it'll sort itself out but what with the warmer weather coming up finding the little tyke might be important. Any ideas anyone?

Ford Capri Laser: noisy, slow, thirsty, bouncy, no buttons but it always sounds like it’s REALLY trying and I can’t help but chuckle when it parps and boings along. And people of a certain age stare at it with a wistful look in their eyes that clearly says…I had one of them. And I sold it because of the kids

The facelift has it in front of the bottom of the radiator - I would guess the pre- is the same. Pop the bonnet and have a look down between the rad and pumper.

The connector for it is under the p/s headlight.

I think there are 2 temp sensors, one between radiator and bumper and 1 in AC intake. Have you scanned with VCDS for faults in instrument cluster and climate control module? High negative temp would mean open circuit because of dodgy sensor or fault in wiring, low supply voltage or could be bad connection in the plug. You should be looking at about 1-2k ohm resistance for sensor in +10..+25C range.

It's the air intake sensor. Had a look and it's easy to get at. Been reading ok since its -45c antics. Sensor might be giving up the ghost, it is nigh on 20 years old. I shall seek a replacement in case it calls it a day.
