Thanks for the replies. The Navigation Module I enquired about is this, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AUDI-A8-D2...item3a7b4332a5

Don't recognise that at all and some listings suggests it's actually to do with parking aids...

(I've only got those on the rear being PF, so the module is a different)

See here for some fairly definitive references: http://www.tyresmoke.net/forum/audi-...emoval-d2.html

You've been misled by a dodgy eBay listing. I believe VAG-COM over eBay any day.

And that is nearly the same (B not D) being 4B0 919 283.

So definitely parking "navigation" aid, not satellite navigation.

Been on hols so sorry for late reply.

Sat Nav ending in an 'E' will defo be an RNS-C unit.

on a 2002 car, you should really have an RNS-D.

It will shove in the hole and work - BUT - a couple of significant caveats:

1) The RNS-C will not under any circumstances use the GALA signal as a speed pulse. You need to run wires from the back of the dash through into the engine bay plenum chamber where the ABS module sits to tap the ABS pulses. This is a right PITA.(speaking from experience here)

2) In the past I have never been able to get a RNS-D working in a 'RNS-C model year car' with the DIS showing correctly - Even using all the correct TMC module etc. You may have similar issues getting an RNS-C to work in a more modern car.

In short, you dont need a TMC module as your RNS-C wont support it.

Personally, I would skip the RNS-C and buy and RNS-D with a TMC module to do it properly. In the long run, it will work better and give a much more useable result.

HTH.

Thanks for the reply. I am not fussed on whether it works on the DIS. I got the RNS to replace the Symphony 2 as that unit looks cheap and basic in comparison, so my main concern is that I get the unit working as a radio/CD changer player. If I can get the nav part to show the current position on the map, etc then I would be happy with that. If the navigation bit works, then great. I never used the RNS C in my A6 2.7T Avant for directions in all the years I owned it. Same goes for the RNS E in the A6 Avant Final Edition that replaced it. Always used my Tom Toms. My biggest issue with the Audi RNS units was the fact it wouldn't take a full postcode, and the amount of time to input the destination. I also would like to hook up a DVD player to the RNS.

You may know, having previously owned an RNS-C, that it will only show a map when a destination is entered, and route directions are active.

It's always bugged me, even my little Ford Focus of similar vintage can do it by just hitting the "Map" button.

However, with the latest "2007 final" CD it's pretty good and the lack of postcodes doesn't bother me, nor do I find it particularly slow entering destinations. Though it is slower than most newer systems to calculate a route.

One thing it is particularly good at is keeping track of exactly where you are. I'm not sure what feeds it gets, but my understanding is that there's a significant element of dead-reckoning using the vehicles own speed/movement/yaw sensors so a continuous GPS signal isn't required.

As noted above, I'd still look for an RNS-D (if yours isn't one ) as your vehicle seems to be equipped for that.

My November 1999 V Plate A6 2.7T Avant had the factory RNS C (it showed M1, M6 etc as simply 1 and 6 etc) would show the map without any destination entered. The link shows this in the pic. So I am now confused if the A6 had an RNS C or D.

Maybe there were different revisions? I do know that mine is as described from late 1998.

But it also doesn't have TV on the button, you have to go to the tuner via a menu.
