Default Power Steering fluid and engine oil specification

Hi,

To the right of the engine bay is a reservoir for Power Steering fluid (but correct me if I am wrong).

The dipstick and external markers show minimum and so I need to buy fluid to top up.

I have to buy some fluid and also some engine oil for very small top ups. I have searched the manual in vain for the specs on the fluids, could someone give me a link to specs?

I am ferrying pals to the MG Yorkshire Owners Club rally at Patley Bridge then camping for weekend. Having a problem with my car would give the guys ammo for years!

Thanks,

Robert

Yes that's the PAS fluid reservoir.

I had trouble finding info on which fluids to use too, during my recent leak kerfuffles (here: http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/showthread.php?t=11336)

I believe CHF 11S is what you need. I bought this stuff:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B006HFM5GO/ (On Amazon Prime, if you need it urgently)

Or, a bit cheaper on Ebay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Wynns-Cent...-/272118142709

It seemed to do the trick, though I did have my mechanic refill with OEM fluid after the repair. Probably unnecessary but I prefer OEM wherever possible.

Don't know the specifications but Audi part number for 1l bottle is G 002 000, superseded by G 004 000 M2, about £10 from dealer.

Or £12 from e-Bay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-Au...AAAOSwygJXg~Xe

A bit late I know as you have probably gone by now but a few months back I flushed and replaced my PAS hydraulic fluid. I used Granville Central Hydraulic Fluid (CHF). It (according to the blurb) is for "power steering, central hydraulic and suspension level control units and suspension level control units as specified (amongst other cars) Audi, and meets the requirements of:
ISO: 7308
VW: G002 000A2, VW TL 52146.00 & G004 000"
+ other manufacturers.
I would also investigate why the level has dropped.

Default Thanks for rapid replies!

Hi All,

I will buy some fluid at 8:30 am from VAG Dealer; no staff to sell small stuff after 6pm...

Re the reason for slight leak I will have a look. Have not topped up in 6 months of ownership and may well have been low when I bought it:- I am not as fastidious as an engineer.

Great to have the inside tips from people who have had the experience.

Robert

Euro Car Parts and GSF both sell suitable equivalents too. Many indy motor factors do too - Comma CHF11s is the most common.
