Replacement head coming arrived thanks to MJ
Silver with Black interior. All features as the '01, with the 'S' mode auto shifter. Dodgey rear tint (need to find a way to get rid of that).

2009 Volvo XC90 V8 R Design
- has a louder more obnoxious exhaust than the S8, sounds great! Love this thing - Q7 was double the price, and certainly not double the car!

Sold:
1997 Audi A4

On the non-military front an airliner climbing out of Heathrow went over us earlier, lower and noisier than most which got my attention.
It was actually a Dreamliner, which are normally not that noisy.

Quantas non-stop to Darwin, must have a hell of a load of fuel on board, no wonder it was climbing slowly!
I think they also fly non-stop to Perth which is slightly further. And they have done a test from London to Sydney.

Talking of American callsigns:

Two Aussie Diggers find themselves in the "Talon" bar at "Camp Victory" at the Baghdad Airport during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
They befriend a couple of American Soldiers and invite them back to their camp for some beers.
So they leave the fortified American "Camp Victory" and wander over to the nearby Australian Camp. They walk through the security gate with an Australian flag and a modest sign reading "Camp Smitty".
Sitting down with a beer (not Fosters), one of the Americans turns to one of the Aussies and asks "So why is your camp called 'Camp Smitty'"?
The Aussie replies, "Well, it's because Smitty was the first bloke to camp here"

I wasn't aware of the Darwin flight, but they were doing Perth pre-Covid for a couple of years - David may have caught one?
Qantas CEO Alan Joyce (ex Ryan Air and Jetstar) has put a call out to both Airbus and Boeing for an ER version of the A350, B787 or B777-X for direct London-Sydney (or Melbourne) flights.
Current versions lack sufficient reserve vs payload.

As an aside, for the delivery flight of Qantas' first B747-400 in 1989, Qantas arranged for some special fuel to fly a direct London-Sydney flight. It had only 23 people on board, with luggage and 2 tonnes of equipment removed. It set a commercial aircraft range record which stood for some time.

It's satirical.
Americans always have to give stuff "cool" names (eg: "Ripper", "Camp Victory", "Raptor" etc).
Aussies just tell it as it is!

Yes, hence place names like "Two Rocks", "Shark Bay", "Useless Loop" although I'm not sure where "Monkey Mia" fits in!!
Regarding flights i never took the no-stop as that left from Heathrow. We always took the Glasgow-Dubai-Perth flights
