Bumper on

I have just had the bumper repainted (attacked by a wheelie bin in the wind) by a paint shop recommended by a detailer based in Gosport. He knows the car, knows Burt and has been following the transformation.

Picked it up yesterday, nice and bright day after the rain and all seems well....... until last night at dusk the bumper looked a lot darker than the rest of the car.

Today at certain angles it is looking darker and also slightly purple in some lights. The painted bumper that MJ had done was never this 'different' and matched the rest of the car perfectly. This one is really rattling my OCD!

What to do?

Could the ceramic coating on the rest of the car be having an effect?

Should I wait until the paint 'hardens' before tackling the paint shop?

I suspect your paint guy has mixed up some stock Avus Silver from the code, which would probably have matched fine 20 years ago. Alas, over that last 20 years the paint on the car has lightened somewhat (its darker under the badges), and so it no longer matches the code. I have another Avus S8 which has exactly the same issue on the fuel filler flap - just a shade darker than the rest of the car.

When I had it painted they scanned the bootlid to get the exact shade and mixed the paint to suit what the car actually was, rather than what the original recipe says, hence it was a better match.

Just had a similar conversation. Have been back to the paint people but thinking I am going to have a fight on my hands

Better put your paint guys on notice just in case.

And please get better MJ as I just get the collywobbles thinking that I have to take the car to anybody else to have it worked on

Default MOT Fail - That went not too well

MOT day today. Failed on emissions as attached info:

Any clues where I should look first? I have VCDS Lite to check but not sure what I would be checking

As the above.

Plan B.

Looking at the CO margin its going to be:

Wynns MOT treatment and a gentle 'Italian Tune Up'

Booked in later this week - fingers crossed.

The MOT place I use is a fairly short drive from my home so I always go the long way round and give it a good blast en route.

One year I forgot and the weather was awful, complete with a deep flood only a couple of hundred yards from the test centre. Fortunately the technician had the common sense to "rev the nuts off it" on the ramp when he realised it had got cold and wet on the way there, so it passed.
