What did you use to polish the mirrors?

Guess what is back from Nicola's? Its soooo shiny!
The gloss levels on this one are amazing, enhanced by the pearl in the paint I think. We're both very pleased with how this turned out. It looks amazing with the diamond cut wheels and recovered brightwork |

I have a collection of metal polishes and heavy-cut compounds, but the key is the Rupes 70mm wool pad on a miniature rotary polisher. The wool pads really cut through the contamination on the surface more than anything else I've found.
Having got the car back to the workshop, I wasted no time taking it apart again Stripping the rear suspension for new bushes The subframe is a little crusty but not terrible, and the bushes are still intact, so this will stay in place for now. I'm going to try polyurethane bushings on my grey S8 shortly and see how it responds. If its acceptable then the subframe refurbs may begin again, since the Lemforder D3 bushes are out of stock everywhere. Toast and new The diff was leaking badly from both output flanges with gear oil everywhere. After a clean, I pulled the driveshaft which is trivial with the hub etc off. Loosening the centre bolt The seal was clearly leaking badly Removed and cleaned up New seal in, flange cleaned up, and refitted New tie rod and re-bushed lower arm back on. |

That Irish Green Pearl paint looks just incredible! You do have to see it in bright sun to really appreciate it though. And brand new OEM centre caps straight out of the packaging, so glad I bought those!

Finally: gone, but not forgotten..... 1998 D2 PF S8. AgateGrey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors. e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later) 1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon, Auto-dim mirror, Leather, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer. And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850! More on the rear suspension today.
Hub bushes in Right side back together The left side diff seal is a tad harder to get to as the exhaust is in the way, but thats easy enough to take off rather than trying to work around it Bushes all done on the left. |
