Default Euro trip in 2005 D3

Hey there,

Just returned from a Euro trip 1463.1 miles from Peterborough to Leipzig in Germany and back. Dover - Dunkirk route and done in two days each way.

24.5mpg, 54mph average speed and 26:53 - all according to the DIS

2005 A8 4.2 V8 Petrol with 203980 miles on the clock and LPG conversion.

Mix of fuels as I have a Euro LPG adaptor. Approx. £400 of fuel used at ~£1.40 a litre average - Varying prices, euro conversion and so forth. A touch over 2 euros for E5 and 1-1.3 euros for LPG - I'd say fuel is cheaper relative to other things, but the poor euro rate makes things similar!

I did some check over, remedial work prior, with new front control arms, a service and two new tires coming in a touch over a grand, but she runs true and stable, which given the speeds I was doing was a very sensible plan.

Didn't miss a beat. LOVED the roads, even dual carriage ways moved fast with great land discipline. I cruised round the 100 mark where I could, blipping a bit faster when needed and well there's plenty of pull there. I didn't go silly, because passengers and I'm less used to reaction times when going much faster.

Oh and even at 100mph you can still get a Vauxhaul Astra on your tail and far too close for comfort, i know the A8 has a nice rear end, but really!!!

Thanks. Those are some good insights into how much the forum German trip is going to cost

Nice going. They are great these old cars. We flew abroad this year, but I missed the 8.
