Default Re: RS6 Brake upgrade for 98' D2

I just read a post on here in regards to upgrading an S8 calipers to an RS6. I have an 98' 4.2L QS and I was wondering if the same could be done? If so what would be the process??

Thanks in advance!!

Hi Will,

I'm looking to do this as a B7 RS4 upgrade. I have sourced the rears but I am struggling to find the front discs and calipers.

As far as I know the upgrade can be done but some modifcation of the hubs is required.

I have the car booked in for the work to be done so I'll post some pics and a procedure with any problems encountered when its complete.

It may be in two parts if I can't source the fronts in time at a reasonable price!

I have just picked up a set of C5 RS6 (2004) rear calipers and disks. Will be fitting them this weekend. Update to follow.

Check the bolt sizes that bolt the caliper frame on the hub. If they're 10mm you'll have to get your drill out as the standard rear bolts are 8mm.

It looks like you'll beat me to the 'How to'. The first time I tried to fit the rear calipers I failed miserably!

Mike,

Did you fit the RS6 calipers and discs in the end?

Steve,

It did not go well!

While the carriers bolted directly to the hub, the hand brake pull is longitudinal whereas the S8 hand brake cable is transverse so I have ordered up some longer handbrake cables. I was also not able to get the disk on as it is too big (335mm) for the carrier by a few millimetres so I will have to have the disk machined down to fit.

So no. RS6 C5 rear brake callipers are not a direct replacement. I will get the handbrake cable to fit before I reduce the size of the disk just in case its not possible. The disks are almost new as are the Ferrodo pads.

More to follow.
